In Washingtonville, Pennsylvania, a photo of a man carrying his dog through a waist deep flooded street in central Pennsylvania reminds us how saving the  lives of our four-legged friends remain a top priority. The unidentified man carrying his dog to safety occurred on Mill Road on Wednesday morning.

Late Wednesday afternoon the National Weather Service issued the following warning:

“Flood Warning
Central Pennsylvania
At 5:50 PM EDT, flooding continues throughout the entire warning areas where the flooding danger is especially high . Flooding will get worse in many locations …
Ways to stay safe now
Avoid walking or driving through flood waters. Just 6 inches of moving water can knock you down and 2 feet of water can sweep your vehicle away. Safety message. Never drive cars through flooded areas! The water may be too deep to allow safe passage. Most deaths that occur during flooding are related to vehicles trying to cross flooded roadways.”
According to the Facebook page Firewire Montour County, which shares information concerning fire and emergency service calls in the area, the heavy rains have brought power outages and the closing of the Montour Preserve and nearby road closures to at least Friday.
Stay safe everyone and please take care of your pets.

  1. What an owner and hope they are both safe. I think we would all do what we could to save our 4 legged members of our families.

  2. This man is a hero and I applaud his act of unselfishness – his love for his dog is obvious and warms my heart – way too many people abandon their pets when there are extreme acts of weather. This man showed his dog is a family member and his life mattered. I applaud his unselfishness – he is what I consider a REAL man. I hope he and his dog are safe.
