On Sunday evening, Matt Bentley ventured out to a salt desert area of Utah known as Salt Flats, with his dog Bella. What began as an off-road, dog birthday adventure (Bella was celebrating her third birthday) turned into a rescue mission when Bentley spotted a dog running alone in the desert area, reported Fox 13 News.
Bentley called out to the lone dog and she ran to him – after loading the ailing dog into his vehicle, Bentley was able to see just how dismal her condition was. The dog’s fur was gone, she was malnourished and had obviously been trying to survive without care for far too long.
The badly neglected dog was taken to a veterinarian, and then transferred to Utah Animal Adoption Center (UAAC), where she is receiving much-needed care. On Wednesday, the animal shelter updated Facebook followers about the dog, who is now known as Kelly:
She is doing well today. Had a bit of the runs today, I think eating real food has caught up to her. She sleeps a lot but that’s good for her. She has developed goopy eyes and is on medicine for that. She is not scratching as much so that’s a good thing. She is happy to see people when we come in. It hurts for her to stand on her front feet. They are red and sore. We are giving her foot baths and putting a good salve on them to help her out. She is still very fragile as far as her health goes. One day at a time!
Multiple people have inquired about adopting Kelly, and others have stated that she might be their lost dog. The animal shelter is hopeful that Kelly simply got lost, and wasn’t purposefully abandoned in the desert. The shelter wrote:
“We will be able to tell in a few weeks. I know that’s hard to wait on if your dog is lost. We just want to make sure if she is a lost dog, that she goes back to her home – the right home.”

???? ❤️ Poor Sweety Hoping You Get Better and Better So Very Soon ???? ❤️
Thank you Matt Bentley for saving this sweet pup. There is still compassionate people in this world. I also hope this dog was lost and not abandoned.
If she was just lost, it would have really helped if she was microchipped. All my furbabies are – even my indoor-only cats. You never know when one might get loose, and at least the chances of them coming home to me are better with a microchip. Prayers for this sweet dog’s recovery and finding a loving home!
Matt Bentley is a hero, how many would have turned a blind eye to a dog running in the desert in this condition. Bless Utah Animal Adoption Center for stepping up and helping this precious girl. I hope she is someone’s lost dog and is able to go home, if not I hope she finds the loving home she deserves.

Yes Thank goodness matt did the right thing, the thing that any kind, compassionate person SHOULD DO, BUT OFTEN DON’T. Bless Him and “Kelly”, I hope that she is soon well and with a loving forever family.
