An Oregon man is facing an animal cruelty charge for allegedly shooting his neighbor’s dog in the face. According to multiple sources, the shooter is identified as Preston Gorbett.

What happened?

Gorbett is accused of shooting an eight-year-old Labrador retriever named Rudy – the dog was grievously injured but is expected to survive. The troubling incident happened on the night of August 17 in Molalla. Gorbett has stated that he thought the senior retriever was going to attack him, so he shot the dog with a .44 Magnum handgun reported KATU News.

When Gorbett was interviewed by KPTV News, he stated that he was sorry that the dog was hurt and he insists that anyone who knows him knows that he would not “intentionally hurt” an animal.

The arrest

Deputies with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and found probably cause to arrest Gorbett on a charge of Aggravated Animal Abuse in the First Degree; the man was booked into the Clackamas County Jail. Deputies rushed the injured dog to a veterinarian for surgery.

  1. He might really be sorry that he injured the dog, but why shoot if he is your neighbor’s dog?Call out to your neighbor to get the dog if you are that afraid (which I doubt). Who walks around at night with a gun in your hand?Where did this happen-on his property or someplace else? Glad the dog will pull through but with serious injuries especially to his eye.

  2. Most Labs will “attack” you with their tongue! I’ve had three senior Labs and they can still get excited and rambunctious but they would not hurt a fly. The shooter is full of shit.
