A man in Lakeville, Indiana, was arrested after he allegedly shot a woman’s German shepherd “execution style.” According to WSBT News, witnesses saw 52-year-old Jon Hanley antagonizing a German shepherd named Major before shooting the dog between the eyes on Saturday.
Major was loose at the time – he had escaped from his owner’s parked car and still had his leash attached. Chief Patrick Howard, with the Lakeville Police Department, described the aftermath of the shooting, “One of the first things I noticed was the amount of blood everywhere. He was shot perfectly right between the eyes.”
Major was sitting by his owner when Hanley opened fire – the woman reportedly screamed for Hanley to stop, but he didn’t. Miraculously, Major survived the shooting and he was transported to a veterinary hospital by the police chief for emergency care. Chief Howard told WSBT News, “First thing I did, was went to the dog and got the dog loaded up into my police vehicle. He was still alert and conscious at the time.”
The accused shooter was arrested and his is facing a charge of animal cruelty – the man has already been released from jail. According to the authorities, Hanley was not bitten by Major.
