A man is accused of fatally beating a golden retriever puppy who belonged to his girlfriend. According to multiple sources, Nina Bermudez’s fiancé, 31-year-old Jeremy Picchierri, beat and strangled the five-month-old puppy named Jack.
The cruel situation
As reported by CBS Boston, Picchierri called Bermudez on Saturday and told her that something was wrong with Jack…the puppy’s owner advised Picchierri to take the dog to a veterinarian. On the way, the man confessed to his (now ex) fiancee that he feared that he might be accused of animal cruelty.
At the Bulger Animal Hospital in North Andover, staff discovered that the puppy showed signs of abuse, including extensive bruising, indicative of being beaten and strangled. Details in a police report explain:
“I observed several marks on the dogs skin which were large bruises. One of the bruises almost appeared to be a handprint around the rear of the dog’s neck along with several other small bruises around the neck and shoulder area where it was shaved. There were also several bruises around the dog’s ears and inside its ears by the ear canal.”
Picchierri has denied beating the puppy – he claims that the injuries were sustained when the puppy had a seizure, though the veterinary staff has stated that the bruising is not consistent with a seizure. The man’s ex-fiancee has stated that he has jealousy issues and has threatened her in the past.
