Capitan, the loyal dog who would lie beside his owner’s grave for the last decade, died at the spot where his human was buried. The 15-year-old German shepherd lived at the side of his owner’s grave in Villa Carlos Paz, a city in Argentina.

According to Daily Sabah Life, Capitan attracted the world’s attention in 2006 when his owner Miquel Guzman died. For several weeks the dog disappeared, but soon the local residents were shocked when they found the dog at his owner’s grave.  Guzman had purchased the dog as a puppy for his 13-year-old son Damian in 2005, but the dog had a special love for Miquel. Damian tried to bring Capitan home several times after his father died, but the dog always returned to his master’s grave.  No one knows how Capitan even found the grave.

“He turned up here one day, all on his own, and started wandering all around the cemetery until he eventually found the tomb of his master,” stated Hector Baccega, the director of the Municipal Cemetery of Villa Carlos Paz. “During the day he sometimes has a walk around the cemetery, but always rushes back to the grave and stays there all night.”

Capitan had been there for the last decade – every day at 6:00 he returned to the grave and stayed the entire night.

Four years ago, Capitan was taken to the vet and had been diagnosed with kidney failure.  He was treated for symptoms, but was not a candidate for surgery. At 15-years-old Capitan died.

It is not clear where Capitan will be buried. Latest reports suggests the German shepherd should be cremated and his ashes buried beneath a monument where locals could pay tribute. This writer thinks his ashes should be buried next to Miquel Guzman and the two can now be back together. Thoughts?

Rest in peace Capitan.

  1. Cremate this loyal dog and spread his ashes over the grave of his owner or bury it by the owners grave.Whatever the rules of the cemetery are.

  2. Capitan’s ashes should be buried beneath a monument next to Miquel Guzman grave.
Capitan and Miquel had a very special relationship and this is what at least Miquel’s son should do.

RIP Capitan, you’re beloved friend is waiting for you at the rainbow bridge.

  3. IT WOULD BE a “TRAVESTY” if they did ANYTHING ELSE But BURY this beautiful and dedicated NOT JUST A DOG BUT a TRUE and HONEST COMPANION TILL HIS LAST BREATH!!! CAPTAIN was where HE wanted to Be UNTIL HIS LIFE CAME TO an END!!!

  4. I’m shedding tears for this loyal pup and his decade of grief. I’m glad he and his owner are reunited in Heaven. I think Capitan should be cremated and buried next to Miquel Guzman. For me, there is no other alternative. RIP Capitan and Miquel. You are together again.

  5. It wouldn’t be right if Capitan were buried anywhere else. Ashes or burial should be with Miguel. Rest easy Capitan and Miguel.

  6. Captain should be buried next to his owner. He stayed with him all those years, he should be given the dignity of resting beside him in death as he did in life. It is the HUMAN THING TO DO.

  7. Capitan should be cremated and ashes should be buried next to Miquel, so they both may rest together forever. Hopefully, that plan is agreeable to the management of the cemetery.
A second option would be to scatter his ashes around the grave.
Either way, Capitan and Miquelon will Rest In Peace forever. ❤️????????

  8. He should be buried where he spent the last 10 years, with Miquel Guzman, his loyalty should be rewarded. Bless him, may he rest in peace.

  9. His ashes should be as close to his favorite person as possible. I hope that is what happens. It is obvious that is where HE WOULD WANT TO BE.

  10. Please bury him beside his beloved master/father. Capitan deserves that much as his devotion to guard Miquel even beyond death is truly heartwarming.

  11. Capitan should be buried next to the man he loved – Miguel – no question about it -his loyalty needs to be recognized and respected. No one will ever tell me that dogs have more compassion, love and loyalty and any human being – Capitan proved it. Please let him rest with Miguel – that is the right thing to do.

  12. I just watched the video of Capitan and Miguel together. It’s a very short video but heartwarming. There’s a chance the cemetery won’t allow a dog’s ashes to be put with Miguel but I hope they would make an exception to their rules, if that is their rule.
