In tragic news for the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana, a K9 officer was killed on Saturday while pursuing a shooting suspect as the man ran into a wooded area.
According to the organization’s Facebook page, Vincent Robertson, 58, was a suspect in the shooting of a woman in her head in an apartment on Friday. The woman’s condition has not been released. When deputies arrived at the apartment on Texas Avenue in Monroe, Robertson fled away on foot. K9 Officer Boco chased the suspect into the nearby woods around 2:00 a.m. Moments later, deputies heard a series of five to seven gunshots, and Boco was missing. His body was found at 3:45.
“Boco died heroically helping to apprehend a suspect in order to keep our community safe.
We would sincerely like to commend all of the agencies who were involved in this incident, which include the Louisiana State Police, Monroe Police Department, Ruston Police Dept., Ruston Fire Dept, Louisiana State Fire Marshall’s Office, and Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office Reserve Unit. We appreciate the efforts of all personnel involved in this unfortunate event.”

Robertson remains in the Lincoln Parish jail and has also been charged with animal cruelty.

Stop sending dogs into danger – it’s wrong.
You are right, DD. And in addition to putting the dogs in danger, there is what goes on behind the scenes in K9 “training.” And I can tell you from personal experience that the K9 handlers who have more sadistic leanings love the slow hanging (to unconsciousness) and kicking so much that they will often do it just for personal amusement. When not in use, or being tortured on the “training” field, the dogs are kept isolated in a kennel in their handlers’ backyards, and there is a ruthless reason for that, too, based on their knowledge that dogs are social pack animals. The dogs become more ‘dependent’ on their torturers to come and remove them from isolation, thus relieving their loneliness. And, the brutality is sometimes interspersed with actual praise and petting.
There have been leaks from all over this country, and the world, but it hasn’t ever come out in the form of an over-all expose’.
And the lengths that the perpetrators will go to in order to keep this covered up are often extreme.

The whole purpose is to put the dogs in danger, to send them in where police don’t dare go, even armed… and the dogs are totally unarmed except for their teeth, knowing nothing about the weapons their targets may have. And then there’s the dogs’ “training”…I understand it’s the stuff of nightmares. If only it were only in nightmares.

This is sad, I have never understood why, if the crook has a gun and already killed someone, that you would turn your dog lose, you know the crook will shoot the dog. What chance does a dog have against an armed crook, and a vest doesn’t protect a dog’s head. Its just not worth the risk, the poor dog. And the time and cost of this Canine Dog and the sadness of another death.
This thug deserves the death penalty for killing a police officer, not just a dog. Hope the judge realizes that the dog’s is considered just as important as a police officer’s life.

The laws need to be changed to a felony charge in the killing of a K-9 officer, not an animal cruelty charge! Officers should not send K-9s in when there are firearms involved because they most likely will be shot and killed! Rest in peace Boco!
