At the Erie International Airport in Pennsylvania,  Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents found a kitten packed in checked luggage “without food, water or air.” The owners of the six-month-old female kitten, Olivia Sari, 21, and Nicholas M. Larrison, 21, have been charged with transporting an animal in a cruel manner and endangering her welfare.

According to GoErieNews, the kitten named Slim has been turned over to the Humane Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania after the airport’s baggage inspection and scanning system alerted TSA officers to further scan the luggage. Ian Bogle, the airport’s director of public safety, stated it was a “poor decision made on the customers’ part.” The couple face fines pending the outcome of the case.

Airlines commonly accommodate bringing pets on board – especially a small cat. Why the couple decided to risk the kitten’s life by stuffing her in a suitcase is sad and disturbing. In all of Bogle’s 28 years working at the airport, although he admits to witnessing quite a few strange things, this is the first time he has ever faced this situation.

What were they thinking?

  1. The couple need to have a competency test to show that they are not competent to have an animal ever again, and maybe not to even have kids!

    • I’m beginning to think that people should take a competency test before adopting a pet. Questions like, It’s ok to leave your pet in a hot car, in the freezing temperatures, tethered to a tree, and surrender them to a kill shelter if not wanted anymore, would at least give good grounds to prosecute them when they do these things. If they had answered correctly and still gone on to do all or some of the above then they KNEW better and can’t play the “I didn’t know” card!

  2. Did they really think the kitten would survive the trip packed in a suit case? Not the brightest of morons out there are they? I’m glad the kitten was found and is safe.

  3. HOW STUPID HEARTLESS PEOPLE CAN BE WHAT THESE MORONS WERE TRYING TO PROOVE I DONT KNOW A SLAP ON THE WRIST ISNT ENOUGH THEY SHOULD NEVER HAVE CONTACT WITH ANY ANIMALS OR EVER ALLOWED TO HAVE PETS, wHAT REAL STUPID ASS HOLES TO BE VERY BLUNT ABOUT IT

  4. These two are to freaking IGNORANT to own an animal. Put their name on a National Registry and make sure they never can own or live in the same home as a pet ever again!
