An Erwin, Tennessee man has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly having buried  alive a six-week-old kitten. Johnny Mack Rogers, 29, was charged with aggravated animal cruelty on Friday after police were notified by the Unicoi County Animal Shelter of the disturbing incident.

According to the Facebook page of the Unicoi County Animal Shelter, the kitten was brought into the shelter one week ago covered in blood and dirt.  He had been rescued from a shallow grave. The facility’s director rushed the kitten to a veterinarian office where emergency treatment was administered.

“The kitten was brought to me by someone and I immediately took it to Robinson Animal Hospital. I stayed with them and watched a team of them try to save him. His mouth and airways were full of dirt. He constantly gasped for air. They did their very best, but he could not be saved,” the Facebook post stated.

Although veterinarians tried their best to save the kitten they named Warrior, his chances for survival were slim, and if he did pull through, it was feared he would still suffer or succumb due to severe internal injuries.

Rogers is accused of burying the kitten after a person at his home stepped on the kitten while the two had been drinking.

Warrior’s heartbreaking photo has been shared hundreds of times. It is hoped this innocent little kitten will find some justice.

“You all asked and demanded something be done, and I told you I’d make sure he was held accountable. That is going to happen. Our court date is September 20. He is going to be charged with Aggravated Animal Cruelty. That is a felony,” posted the shelter.

“Mark your calendars. I want hundreds of people there. We need to show that this is not acceptable behavior in our community and in society. “

Rest in peace Warrior.

    • I totally agree – bury this bastard up to his neck, pour honey over his head and let the ants have a festival on him – he deserves no less.

  1. Please don’t let this man go unpunished, he looks so smug like he knows he’ll only get a slap on the wrist. I hope people close to the courthouse show up on Sept. 20th for Warrior. RIP baby!

  2. If Warrior had been MY precious little treasure, that POS would be in the morgue and I would have been arrested…….

Lock this useless POS up and lose the keys……. He should only leave prison in a pine box……..

RIP precious little treasure……. Your life was stolen from you….. You didn’t deserve to be murdered…… please look for MacKitty in Heaven….. you will be welcome to join his group of snuggle buddies…….. so sorry that you were failed so horribly by humans……..

That POS who murdered you will burn in Hell forever for his cruelty……. let’s hope he gets there ASAP after suffering a terrible death in pain, alone, afraid and unloved…….

  3. That sorry s.o.b., who the hell does he think he is? He had no right doing that to that poor defenseless baby. He needs to be put under the jail. I hope and pray Bubba gets hold of him and makes him pay for what he has done. That makes me ashamed to say I’m from Tennessee. Just shameful. Asshole…

  4. Surely there are enough tall trees in Tennessee to find one to use for this scumbag SOB. He did this after drinking eh? First pour a full bottle of good Tennessee whiskey down his throat. Then stuff his mouth with dirt and tape it shut so he can feel what is was like for that poor kitten. If we’re lucky, he will puke because of the whiskey and he can choke on it. Then string him up.

  5. An eye for an eye….and make him dig his own grave, knowing each shovel of dirt is one step closer to him being buried alive.

    RIP Warrior. Your life mattered.

  6. Hope the judge knows the full story and commits him to jail time also. He should have to pay for what he did to this defenseless kitten. Should have been done to this cretin.

  7. PLEASE all of Erwin Tenn. show up for this maggot’s court date on September 20th – his cruelty must be prosecuted to the fullest extent – no slap on the wrist, his actions were beyond cruel – personally, I feel he should get exactly what he gave an innocent kitten, buried alive. Johnny Mack Rogers is nothing more than a drunken useless sack of trash and should be treated as such.

  8. I wish I lived somewhere close enough to attend….this useless, worthless, vile excuse for a human deserves to be LOCKED UP, Fined and Banned from EVER owning or living with a companion animal!

  9. RIP Warrior. You dear little kitten, you have now crossed the RainBow Bridge into beautiful Animal Heaven. Fly hight little one.
This vile and evil animal torturing psycho depraved monster Johnny Mack Rogers must be blundgeoned and buried alive until this pos dies.
I am absolutely sickened by the unimaginable heinous torture and suffering committed against such trusting, defenceless and innocent sentient beings by the monsters on our planet.
All animal torturers and abusers must be put to death and made to die in excruciating agony the same as their defenceless and innocent victims endured.
Much stricter Animal Protection Laws must be introduced immediately to eradicate all the animal torturers and abuser what ever age they are. They are the now and our future vile and evil Serial Killers. So get rid of all these vile and evil now and future Serial Killers before they start killing humans.
RIP little Kitty. Fly high in Animal Heaven.
