The K9 partner of an Ohio police officer who was killed in the line of duty this month is devastated over the loss…and a photo posted by the Ohio Going Blue Facebook page, showing the sad dog’s face, has gone viral. On February 12, the page posted the poignant image and stated:

This is fallen Westerville Police Officer Eric Joering’s K9, Sam. He was in the back of Officer Joering’s cruiser during the shooting. Sam is staying with his original trainer right now. He says Sam is doing ok, but his heart is broken too.

Last weekend, 39-year-old Eric Joering, and 54-year-old Tony Morelli, were fatally shot while responding to a potential “domestic situation.” According to Fox 8, Joering was a 17-year police veteran and Morelli, a 30-year veteran.

Though Sam initially was staying with his original trainer, he has since been relieved of his police duties and he will be retiring to live with his partner’s family. The Ohio Going Blue Facebook page posted the news on Tuesday.

“Just received word that Officer Joering’s K9, Sam, will be retiring and will live with the Joering family!”

Did you know that if you want to get updates from a Facebook page, you have to do more than just “like” it? To get recent postings in your Facebook feed, you must also hover your mouse over the word “following” and then click “see first” from the drop-down menu. You may want to check back with your favorite pages on occasion because Facebook often changes your settings, no longer having your favorites among those to “see first.”

Good Watching his Master being gunned down was just TOO MUCH EMOTIONAL TRAUMA for this lovely Animal… he will also be much more useful being a companion animal to the Officer’s Grieving Family!!!

My condolences to the families and fellow officers of these brave officers for their loss, I know they will be missed. I am so happy that Sam at least won’t lose the family that he loves, I’m glad they let him retire with them. .

I am relieved to see this dog will be allowed to live in retirement with his family. It is absolutely the right thing to do.
