In a disturbing case of animal cruelty in Morganton, North Carolina reported on Tuesday, a Jack Russell terrier mix is recovering after having been shot with a BB gun. The dog was shot at close range at least 100 times and then left in a ditch to die. The person responsible for this heinous crime has not been apprehended.
According to WbtvNews, two Good Samaritans found Brownie in a ditch and rushed him to a veterinarian where the pup underwent surgery on Tuesday for BBs shot throughout his body, into his face and eyes. Brownie’s rescuers were able to track down the dog’s owner – Edith Pritchard, who is retired and lives on a small fixed income.
Pritchard lives in a small community and would let her seven-year-old dog, who she has had since his birth, run around in what she had thought was a very safe area.
“The dog was tied down and shot at close range with a BB gun,” Janet Lott, the dog’s rescuer stated on Facebook.
Although Brownie is slowly healing, it is believed he is blind and may also be deaf. Whenever Edith would call his name in the past, Brownie would happily wag his tail; now he just lies there.
There are no suspects in this horrible case of animal cruelty, and Edith is frightened and finds it so distressing that anyone would hold a sweet little dog down and intentionally shoot him in his face and his eyes. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with Brownie’s medical expenses.
Get well soon Brownie.
