A hunter in Carter Lake, Alaska is currently fighting for his life after he was critically injured when the bear he shot landed on top of him. William McCormick, 26, had been hunting on Saturday when the accident occurred.

According to WsvnNews, McCormick had been hunting with his friend, Zachary Tennyson, 19, when the men spotted the bear on a ridge above them. The injured bear dislodged a rock causing the bear to tumble down the ridge. McCormick was struck by both the bear and the rocks which rolled down the hillside.

McCormick was flown by helicopter to an Anchorage hospital where he has been reported to be in critical condition. His hunting companion was not injured. Both men are in the army and stationed at the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

It is not known what happened to the bear or what kind of bear was shot. Brown bears are the most prevalent in the area.

  1. Sorry for his luck but if he wasn’t hunting and trying to kill a bear, he wouldn’t be fighting for his life. I hope the bear is ok and not critically injured.
