A group of hikers on a tour in Havasu Canyon witnessed a horse repeatedly kicked after it collapsed on a trail on Thursday. The owner tried getting the horse back on its feet – still burden laden, and when that didn’t work, is alleged to have kicked the horse in the face.

More than 20,000 people annually visit this remote part of the Grand Canyon in Arizona which belongs to the Havasupai tribe. For years animal advocates have complained about the mistreatment of many of the hundreds of  horses, burros and mules used to carry heavy loads up and down the canyon every day. The treatment of these animals is abusive and cruel.

A series of photos, posted on the SAVE Havasupai Horses Facebook have been gaining viral attention. Under the photos the following comments were added to the already disturbing images.

“SAVE received the following photos this afternoon, from a group of hikers who were in Havasu Canyon YESTERDAY, 4/19/18. After the horse collapsed, the owner tried getting it up to its feet. When that failed, HE BEGAN KICKING THE ANIMAL IN THE FACE.”

Susan Ash, SAVE Foundation founder had the following to add:

“A common rebuttal to our posts showing the abuse to Havasupai pack animals is that these are singular “isolated incidents” and “not the norm.” We’ve never denied that there are good wranglers/packers in Supai who treat their animals well and care for them. The amount of photos, videos and tourists’ testimony proving that this abuse is much more common than a few “isolated incidents.” however is astounding.”

The person who witnessed this terrible scene and took the photos is filing a complaint with the BIA.

  1. Hey you FAT FUCK!!!! How would you like someone kicking you in the face if you fell? And maybe “IF” you took all that heavy shit off the horse it wouldn’t fall.

  2. I hope that bastard gets kicked in the head!!!! That poor horse did not deserve the treatment that he received!!!! Anyone who can do this needs to be PUNISHED to the FULLEST!!!

  3. This pack that the horses are carrying should be tied to the back of these owners and them made to carry it up the mountains. this is disgusting. Day after day, abusing these animals and nothing is done about it. Shame on HUMANS for their cruelty and lack of conscience.

  4. How about putting a big load on the stupid owners back, then when the fool falls down kick him in face, sounds good to me! Poor horse.

How interesting, since that is EXACTLY how the police and sheriffs departments (with complete support of the media) present every case of abuse/torture/death of a K9 which gets leaked (“what you saw was the exception to the rule,” and “we haven’t done that for the last 20 years” – or take your pick).

I wonder if the ‘humane’ community will buy the wranglers’ excuses, just like most of them have bought K9 handlers’ denials and justifications.

  6. My goodness, like kicking a horse in the head will make him get up! That poor horse! This owner needs to be separated from his horses since he doesn’t take proper care of them! b

  7. The owner should be kicked in the face several times with the weight on his back that these horses and mules are forced to carry. Yes, they are strong and can carry load, but within reason and these animals need rest and down time to recuperate after these hikes. Treat an animal with respect, and you will get so much more in return. This abuse, unfortunately will now need to be monitored since the owner can’t do that himself.

  8. This FAT, sub-human maggot ought to be thrown off a cliff. Period! Sick of reading about these f*****g, sadistic INDIAN monsters getting away such barbaric treatment of animals that they EARN A LIVING OFF OF. Better wake BIA or you’re gonna see some vigilante justice happening in the dead of night. Period! To the people booking these hiking tours: if you REALLY want to see change, STOP booking with these idiots for just ONE season and I guarantee you that BIA will FINALLY address this. YOU have the power of the purse, USE it!

  9. THAT fat fuck of a horse abuser should be saddled with the damn load he forced on that animal and made to carry it for umpteen miles – let his fat ass collapse and then kick in his face until there is nothing left but blood and gore. These assholes need a massive lesson in humane treatment of animals and this maggot needs to be eliminated from the human race since he sure proved he doesn’t deserve to be in it – give him exactly what he gave an innocent overworked horse – NO MERCY!!

  10. This place has been written about, complained about, and photographed repeatedly for it’s horrible abuse of animals….yet they are still working!!! WHY can’t this place be closed down? They need to get some kind of motorized equipment….the heat and the heavy packs are too damn much for these poor horses. CLOSE THIS ABUSIVE COMPANY DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
