The hero German shepherd who saved the lives of earthquake victims in Italy has been poisoned to death in the front yard of his own home. The terrible crime happened on Saturday.
According to the Guardian, Fabiano Ettore found his dog Kaos in the garden of his home. On Fabiano’s Facebook page, he tried to describe his emotional pain- stating his dog’s death left an “unbridgeable void.”
“I have no words. I can’t understand such a horrible act. He was alive at least until two o’clock in the morning, as I heard him bark,” he stated.
Both Kaos and Fabiano earned hero status when the three-year-old dog arrived in Armatice after a 6.2 magnitude earthquake in August 2016 caused mass destruction. More than 230 people lost their lives, but Kaos and his owner worked with rescuers for weeks saving victims of the disaster.
The Italian police are investigating the dog’s death. Animal advocates are calling for more stringent animal protection laws and want harsher punishments for anyone found guilty of animal cruelty.
In a tribute to his brave dog, Fabiano posted the following emotional tribute to Kaos. It has been shared more than 116,000 times:
“Keep up your work up there, keep looking for the missing and saving lives.”
Rest in peace sweet boy. We are sorry humans failed you.
