In the heartbreaking story of a once proud Labrador retriever, the sad reality of animal abuse and neglect again rears its ugly head. On Tuesday afternoon, Rescue Dogs Rock NYC’s co-founder Stacey Silverstein was asked to help save two more lives at a rural Texas shelter.

“…She’s a broken down, homeless, neglected dog with a broken back and she is unable to use her back legs,” Stacey explained to the organization’s supporters and followers on Facebook. “Her hind legs are twisted and mangled. How long has she been like this? Dragging her back legs as they continually scrape on the hard concrete. Suffering and in pain?”

Had it not been for Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, Bae would have been euthanized on Tuesday afternoon.

“We were told by the shelter where she was dumped that if she couldn’t leave today she would be a mercy euthanasia due to her severe injuries,” Stacey added.

Later in the day, Bae was transferred to the organization’s Texas veterinarian hospital for life saving medical care. This pup, however is not the end of the story. In the photo below, a small black dog covered in mange moves behind Bae. In the organization’s frantic rush to help Bae, the tiny, scared puppy trying to push herself into the wall to become invisible could not be overlooked. She has been named Fawn and has now also been transferred to the veterinarian hospital with Bae. Both dogs are safe.

  1. God bless & thank you RDR of NY. Unselfish, loving care group of people who work tirelessly for these animals. We are grateful to this organization as well as others who give so much to save these unwanted dogs and cats.

  2. Thank you for saving BOTH dogs. Too many HUMANS are indifferent to the suffering caused by HUMANS and thank God for people like you. my prayers will follow.

  3. Thank you RDR. Without your compassion and generosity these two pups would have been killed. It’s heartbreaking to see the poor Lab. mangled with a broken back and the puppy so frightened trying to be invisible. It’s disgusting how humanity can be so cruel and heartless.

  4. I wonder if anyone saw this dog dragging around and didn’t do anything to help. When I lived in Austin Texas I was constantly finding dogs and getting them to the shelter or to their homes. Some owners do care. Other people are self absorbed bad people.

  5. And as usual, if not for Rescue Dogs Rock NYC both of these innocent victims of neglect and cruelty would have been put down in a heartbeat – and this being Texas, you can be well assured, the dogs would be dead. It seems RDR is one of the very few rescues who step up ASAP to help animals destined to die because of human cruelty.
