In Houston, Texas, a spooked horse running down a busy highway on Monday was brought to safety by good Samaritans. While we all love horses and love to brag about their intelligence, these beautiful creatures are prey animals – thus the flight instinct that can get any equine in danger- especially on a busy city thoroughfare.

And as the story goes, according to the original video recorded by Stephania Lipp and her partner Jesse Mattison, the saddled mare spooked after her owner dismounted. When Stephania and her family merged onto Highway 69, they spotted the horse running along the freeway. A woman driving in another vehicle was able to grab the horse’s reins out of the passenger window and lead her off the highway.

“They just saved the horse’s life,” Mattison stated in the video.

The couple followed the vehicle that rescued the horse and spotted the owner of the horse speaking with police. The mare had been spooked by an apparent street noise and escaped from her handler.

  2. Thank you for catching her. I had my horse spook after her tie out rope caught on her foot and she ran 8 miles back to the barn, through the woods. Thank God she wasn’t hit by a car and not hurt in her panic. Thank you SO much.

  3. That young lady is going to have a great story to tell about the day she saved a horse loose on the freeway. Good catch little miss.
