In Newburgh Heights, Ohio, police arrested two people on felony animal cruelty charges after four dogs were found chained to a pole and living in what police have described as deplorable conditions. Dion Harris and Jasmine Grays have been charged with felony animal cruelty.

According to the Facebook page for the Newburgh Heights Police, Chief John Majoy stated the city’s housing inspector found the four dogs while inspecting a home on East 53rd Street and contacted authorities.

Two adult dogs and two puppies had been chained to a pole and left in the attic where temperatures exceeded 100 degrees. There was no food or water and the dogs were eating the insulation. All of the dogs have been rescued and are expected to survive. They have been taken to Pepperidge Kennels for care and will be transferred to the Animal Protective League for adoptions.

Many thanks to the Newburgh Heights Building Department for all their help, and of course the police for protecting those who cannot speak for themselves.
