Forgotten ones: 3 tiny terriers huddled in old tire next to busy freeway

In Muscoy, California, the “forgotten ones” huddled together inside of an old tire just below the busy freeway at a dead end. No one knows how long the three tiny frightened terriers had been there, or how they ended up so close to a busy highway, but on Saturday afternoon, in the extreme heat of the day, volunteers from the rescue group Dream Fetchers arrived to help.

“The dogs were so lethargic, they couldn’t walk out, and they just huddled closer together when I tried to take them out one at a time,” rescuer Cassandra Aldridge wrote on Facebook, “so the quickest and easiest way to get them out of the situation was to pick up the whole tire, with the dogs inside, and put it in my car.”

The dogs were given water; the tiny black one wrapped her paws around the white pup as if it had been her own baby. All seemed relieved to be in the air conditioned vehicle on their way to the emergency veterinarian hospital. The black poodle appeared to have a severe case of mange and could be pregnant.

All three dogs are now safe and being administered veterinary care. It is horrifying to think these dogs had purposely been dumped and left to die in the extreme heat with no food or water.

“Everybody is safe! They ate a good meal, were examined and checked for parasites. Their coats are matted and they were infested with fleas and ticks. They were given oral flea/tick treatment that works right away. They all have nice fluffy blankies to sleep in, food and water, ” volunteer Hedy Alison posted in her update later on Saturday evening. “They will be monitored as they adjust and decompress. Full vetting and grooming on Monday and Tuesday. Dream Fetchers stops at nothing to get every dog they save the care they need. Exams. Baths. Grooming. Parasite exams. Vaccines. Flea/Tick control. Spay/Neuter. Microchips. Teeth cleanings. Board until foster or R2R…. That is standard!!! plus any other special needs. They get everything they need because of the fearless Dream Team and all the amazing, selfless, miraculous support and donations from all of you. It takes a village.”

Donations are needed to help with their care and medical expenses.

HUGE THANK YOU to all the kind rescuers who came to the aid of these little ones. You are heroes – you saved three lives. Hope they all fully recover and get the safe loving homes they definitely never had. And to the hunk of sewer slime who dumped them – may a fatal encounter with an 18 wheeler be in your very near future – that would be justice for your cruelty.
