A long-time resident of the Manatee County Animal Services facility in Florida seems to have been forgotten. Seven-year-old Ember has been held at the animal shelter since 2016. In March, after a good deal of publicity, shelter staff thought that Ember’s happily-ever-after had come true, but several months later she was returned – back to square one, homeless and alone.

In August, the shelter wrote:

Sometimes a forever home…isn’t. 🏠🐶🐱💔
It’s a reality for shelters that sometimes adoptions don’t work out. As an open-admission shelter, MCAS is not here to judge the citizens that we serve; we are simply here to do our best for the animals during their time of need. Sometimes that means starting over and searching for another home. One day we hope that everyone agrees that an adoption is a lifelong commitment to that pet. Ember was our longest term resident of over 2 years, until she received wide media coverage and was finally adopted 5 months ago. Now, Ember is back at MCAS. So we did it once and we can do it again, team… this beautiful, loving girl needs a home again – who wants to come meet her?

Her personality

As reported by the Bradenton Herald, Ember likes to play with toys, take naps, and snuggle. She is not fond of cats, but other dogs do not seem to bother her (though the shelter recommends a meet and greet from any potential adopters).

Kassandra Zess-Pagel, Vice President of Friends of Manatee County Animal Services and an MCAS volunteer, told the news agency, “I think she’s being overlooked so much, but she’s an absolute sweetheart inside and out.”

  1. Ember needs a good home with a family that will give her the love and caring she needs. May not like cats, but is definitely friendly with people. Give her the chance she needs for her forever home now. Don’t let her die.

  2. Ember, is so beautiful and it’s definitely not her fault that she was brought back! She will b in my prayers that someone will step up and truly give her the the 4 ever amazing home she so deserves!!!
