In Seminole County, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) discovered a playful “leaping” lemur crawling out of a trailer during a traffic stop over the weekend. The pickup truck towing a dragging trailer was stopped on I-4 as it was throwing off dangerous sparks.

According to WftvNews, the driver of the truck had been driving erratically and had hit other vehicles earlier. A dashcam video from the traffic stop by the FHP showed a lemur looking out at the back of the trailer and then jumping down and acting playful as the troopers questioned the driver.

“I don’t know what it is … it came from the trailer,” one of the troopers can be heard saying in the video. “A lot of the troopers are big animal lovers and one of the goals of this trooper was just to make sure the animal was secured so it didn’t get hurt and so it didn’t get out onto the road and cause another crash.”

The truck driver, Shana Taylor stated the lemur’s name is Miko and to be careful because “she bites.” It took troopers about 15 minutes to secure the animal’s safety. The trailer also contained a tortoise, parrot, goat and a wallaby that had been slightly injured. The animals are all in the care of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

It is not known at this time if Taylor has a license to own the exotic animals.
