In Port St. Lucie, Florida, an 11-year-old boy has been charged with felony animal cruelty for abusing his pet cat. The small black cat “pooped” in the boy’s bedroom.
According to the Port St. Lucie Police Facebook page, the incident occurred on Tuesday; a neighbor videoed the disturbing incident and called police. The child could be seen throwing the cat named Ray into the air six times, throwing the cat to the ground four times and then kicking the defenseless animal.
“During the videoing of the incident, the suspect is seen several times grabbing the cat, throwing it in the air, and letting it land on the ground. At times the cat would hit the ground and attempt to run away only to have the suspect chase the cat down and throw it again,” posted the police department.
Police interviewed the 11-year-old after getting permission from his mother on Thursday. Police officers and Animal Control officers went to the suspect’s home and seized two other cats and a bird. The cats were taken to a local veterinarian for evaluation. Ray sustained soft tissue injury to his tail; the other cat was in good health.
The 11 year old suspect was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
