Ingredients linked to canine heart disease

A dog’s lifespan is too short for most every dog lover – but what if you discovered that the food you were feeding your beloved pet was actually shortening his or her lifespan even more? The FDA recently issued a warning about certain ingredients which are linked to canine heart disease – a condition which can impact a dog’s lifespan.

What the FDA research shows about pet food

As a conscientious dog owner, what should you be on the lookout for when purchasing food for your pet? In a warning issued on July 12, the FDA outlines the foods to watch for:

“The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Veterinary Medicine and the Veterinary Laboratory Investigation and Response Network, a collaboration of government and veterinary diagnostic laboratories, are investigating the potential association between reports of canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in dogs and certain pet foods the animals consumed, containing peas, lentils, other legume seeds or potatoes as main ingredients.”

What canine health condition are veterinarians concerned about?

The FDA states:

“Canine DCM is a disease of a dog’s heart muscle and often results in congestive heart failure. In cases that are not linked to genetics, heart function may improve with appropriate veterinary treatment and dietary modification if caught early.”

Adding:

“Early reports from the veterinary cardiology community indicate that the impacted dogs consistently ate foods containing peas, lentils, other legume seeds or potatoes as main ingredients in their primary source of nutrition for time periods ranging from months to years. That’s why the FDA is conducting an investigation into this potential link.”

  1. I stopped feeding my dogs commercial food 33 years ago. But the poisoning of animals (including the human animal) is not just through food. Herbicides, pesticides (including flea and tick poisons), toxic cleaners, etc. are also bad, and the one thing that so many people have been programmed to have a religious belief in – vaccinations – is up there as the worst, in my estimation.

In the last few years we’ve seen some veterinarians amend their vaccination protocols, saying that yearly vaccination is “over-vaccination.” But their vet school indoctrination (funded by pharma) doesn’t allow them to see that the same vaccinations they acknowledge are causing autoimmune diseases, seizures, hemorrhages, allergies, cancer, paralysis (small partial list) upon re-vaccination are still made of the same poisons when they’re spread out or given just once. And the kicker is, there is really no proof that they are protective. There ARE ways to build strong immune systems, but injecting heavy metals, toxic chemicals and foreign RNA, DNA and viruses (SV40 comes to mind, being the most infamous) is NOT it. I have many, many links, but these will have to do, to save space, unless someone has further questions.

  2. Sounds to me like some animal researchers were looking for some new “work” to line their bulging pockets some more so they cooked up this new link between DCM and peas, legumes and potatoes in dog foods and brought the idea to their ever-loving FDA to get some media coverage and a lot of panic going so that people will demand extensive feeding studies on caged dogs in labs to “see if this link is true.” First they panicked everyone about feeding dogs grains, now with the alternatives to grains they’re raising a panic again. It’s far more likely that whichever brands of dog food MIGHT be involved in causing DCM that it’s lack of Taurine that’s the cause. Taurine is supposed to be added after the cooking process because Taurine is destroyed by cooking. Perhaps certain companies are cooking the Taurine? Then again, it might not be the food at all but some other thing the affected dogs all have in common, like what Sue commented earlier. This was a half-baked story put out by the FDA and run with by the media, seemingly to generate panic and increased funding to certain animal researchers.
