Chispa’s family surrendered their 14-year-old dog to the Carson Animal Care Center at 10:00 in the evening late last week. They told the staff the dog can be “aggressive” at times. Sadly, there was no indication her owner had bothered to take her to a licensed veterinarian and help to assess the little dog’s issue.

This little gal is going to need an understanding compassionate foster situation or approved rescue organization to help her. How can it be fair to abandon her in her time of need?

  1. Small dogs like this are scared, not aggressive. This family has tired of her because she has gotten old and looks a mess too. Why should they bother with her when they can just dump her at a shelter. This dog was never spayed nor probably taken to a vet for a while if ever. This dog looks very lonely and sad which can translate into aggression when trying to protect herself. Hope she gets into a loving family who can help her in her senior years.

  2. I get so tired of these kind of people who don’t know how to deal with unwanted dog behavior. YOU DON”T GET RID OF THE DOG, YOU LEARN TO GET RID OF THE UNWANTED BEHAVIOR. There are so many things online to help. this is so ridiculous.

  3. Carson isn’t the shelter to be taking an elderly dog and telling them she is aggressive. I hope a rescue steps in, she is probably just scared and been mistreated! Shame on her owners!

  4. This is nothing more than an ongoing fundraising ploy to enrage your supporters so that they’ll keep donating money to animal rescue organizations.

The comment, “sadly, there was no indication her owner had bothered to take her to a licensed veterinarian” is mere conjecture, or more likely, just something thrown-in to piss off the base.

If the dog is aggressive, the dog is aggressive.

There is no way I would keep a sometimes-aggressive animal, especially around small children.

Had the dog attacked someone, the owners would have been liable. You cannot ethically turn over an aggressive pet and not say anything.

If you think that it’s okay to NOT say anything, ask an attorney and see what they say.

In fact, you just made the animal harder to adopt.

  5. She is darling. She may have dental issues or arthritic issues. Her former people are idiots. I hope there is a fixable reason for her aggression, if that is truly why they dumped her.

  6. Sorry, this little dog is or so they say, aggressive – maybe she was treated poorly, she is not spayed – because these piss poor owners never bothered – spaying would have helped BUT I suspect her ‘aggression’ stemmed from poor treatment – she is also 14 years old and more than likely never saw a veterinarian – this is a HUMAN problem, not a dog problem. Chispa needs a safe loving home and with the reputation Carson has, it is more than likely she will not get one.
