An Austin, Texas, family is singing the praises for their puppy, who they have credited with saving two young children from a deadly snake. On Thursday, the Austin Fire Department shared the canine hero’s story with its Facebook fans:

Heroes come in all shapes, sizes…and species!

Meet Panda, a Shih Poo, who saved the day yesterday when she took on a coral snake making its way toward two small children.

Panda’s owner, identified as Mr. Martinez, alerted the fire department to the situation, and wrote his own post about his little “superdog:”

“My awesome hero pet puppy, Panda, saved kids’ lives today. There were two kids (ages 1 and 3) playing on their apartment patio (ground level) when Panda spotted a coral snake two inches from the patio. As we all know, the coral snake is deadly and by it being bright in color, the toddler and child could have easily picked it up and the ending would have been tragic! The fire department came out quickly, removed the snake, and saved the day!”

A-shift personnel from Engine 40 responded to the scene to remove the deadly snake from the property. Way to go Panda!

Did you know that if you want to get updates from a Facebook page, you have to do more than just “like” it? To get recent postings in your Facebook feed, you must also hover your mouse over the word “following” and then click “see first” from the drop-down menu. You may want to check back with your favorite pages on occasion because Facebook often changes your settings, no longer having your favorites among those to “see first.”

  1. Panda is a HERO and deserves to be treated like one – she saved two children – a huge steak should be on her dinner plate.

  2. How did the pup save them? I didn’t see anything about barking or jumping up and down or any signs that the dog did anything.
