Blind senior surrendered by family

Family brought blind senior dog to animal control and asked them to put her down

A family brought their blind senior dog to a busy open-intake animal control facility in California and asked the staff to put her down. The 13-year-old dog’s name is Kikay and she has been at the Carson Animal Services facility since September 6.

Still alive but confused

Though Kikay’s family asked for her to be euthanized, she is still alive, albeit confused. Imagine being plucked from your home and left with strangers…nothing sounds or smells the same. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is familiar. This is Kikay’s current reality.

The volunteer-run Facebook page, Saving Carson Shelter Dogs, wrote:

KIKAY was driven to the shelter by her family who felt this BLIND ANGEL was ready to be euthanized but they didn’t want to go to their Vet. Maybe she didn’t have a Vet ever because she is so full of fleas and dirty so she must have been outside for awhile. She is so CONFUSED and she needs help fast, she deserves so much better than this. Please SHARE for her life, she’s SO precious and a FOSTER or ADOPTER would save her.

I don’t know how anybody has the heart to do this to a family member. I have 4 little lap babies–3 are seniors–2 of those are visually impaired. My 15 y.o. MinPin & 15 y.o. chihuahua still function well & know their way around the house. They know whose voice to respond to. I am 73 y.o. & I just pray God will let me stay here on this earth & able to continue to care for & love them to the end. I also have a 14 y.o. & one almost 5 y.o. i can’t imagine parting with them & especially for blindness.

How the hell do people dump a blind dog they have had and say they want it euthanized? What heartless vile, evil minded creatures to do this to an animal who depends on them. Unfamiliar surroundings and so confused. Hope this baby gets a family or person who will cherish her and provide the loving and warm home she needs. Kikay taken for a drive and then dumped in this shelter.Would they do that with their children?

What can we DO to ensure this little on is rescued and lives the rest of her days in a LOVING home? Getting angry about the rottenness of her owners is NOT helping the abandoned little one? Share the page and reach out to anyone who can help.
