A devoted dog is in the news because of her unwavering faithfulness to her former family. The six-year-old Great Pyrenees mix was re-homed by her family when they moved…but the dog, named Cathleen, was not ready to be be part of a new family.
Cathleen’s touching (admit it, heartbreaking) story was originally shared on Oklahoma’s Seminole Humane Society / Seminole Animal Shelter Facebook page on January 8. The animal shelter explained how the dog walked for miles to reach her family:
“Let us tell you the story of Cathleen. Cathleen is precious and her original family loved her very much. But they moved into a home in town where they couldn’t keep her. So they gave her to someone in Prague a few months ago. Cathleen has traveled TWICE from Prague (about a 20 mile trip) and returned to her family in Seminole.”
Though Cathleen’s former family loves her, the shelter explained that their current situation makes keeping her impossible. Cathleen WAS in search of a new home, but uplifting news was announced by the animal shelter on Friday:
❤️💙💝‼️CATHLEEN HAS A HOME. SHE WILL BE GOING TO TEXAS‼️💙 We want to thank all of you for your outpouring of support for this beautiful girl! We had so many great applications for her and offers to come and get her from all over the US!! While we can’t notify everyone individually, we do want to say THANK YOU!!❤️
Hopefully Cathleen’s heart will be open to accepting the love of her new family.

What a simply “tear Jerking story” Love knows No End !!! Golly I hope this lovely girl will accept her new Family in Texas and Remain there with them and not run away…
Glad of a happy ending. Last time I read about a dog doing that, they killed her. Glad her outcome was much better.
So sad. If the owner loved her so much, why didn’t they find a home that would accept dogs? I hope her new family would give all the love she so much deserve.
Absolutely! This is just another piss poor excuse for not keeping Cathleen – ‘moving’ – if they loved her so much she would have gone with them – and apparently Cathleen loved them much more than they loved her since she traveled 20+ miles to get back to them. Animals are so much more loyal than any human. I hope her new home is one of true love on both sides and she is in a safe happy home.
That poor baby. I can’t imagine how she feels
