It was on Saturday when a friendly two-year-old American bull dog named “Ice” was surrendered by his owner to the overcrowded San Bernardino City Animal Shelter. Ice’s owner brought him to the shelter because the dog was no longer allowed to live in the apartment. Yes, the owner cried, but what about Ice? A shelter volunteer was in the lobby of the shelter moments before Ice was left behind.

“OWNER SURRENDER. Ice’s best friend brought him to the shelter today. His human cried. Ice was crying. It was a mess. Ice is a good boy, who needs a stable home.”

Click here for Ice’s Pet Harbor listing. “My name is Ice and I am an unaltered male, white American Bulldog mix. Shelter staff think I am about 3 years old. I have been at the shelter since Apr 21, 2018. For more information about the adoption process,

San Bernardino City Animal Control at (909) 384-1304. Ask for information about animal ID number A513378.”

Surrendered dogs have no required hold period and thus can be humanely euthanized at any time.

Share Ice’s story and photos with friends, family, approved rescued organizations and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives. We do not always know the full story why dogs are surrendered. It is asked that animal advocates use their energy to help this dog find a safe foster or permanent home.

  1. Pleas someone adopt or foster. This dog should have also be neutered by the owners. Makes it better for the dog and helps with adopting or foster sometimes.

  2. If my dog was no longer able to live in the apartment, then I would be looking for another one. If the dog had been living in the apartment and all of a sudden the landlord was saying he had to go, then they would have a fight on their hands. At the very least I would try to find a rescue, a good home or any other place besides a “kill shelter”! I pray for Ice, he doesn’t deserve this! As for his owners, you wouldn’t get rid of your child if they were no longer wanted would you?

  3. Did the person even try looking for a temporary foster for Ice? Doesn’t the owner want him back? I would move from that apartment! They don’t want my dog, they don’t want me!

  4. What a nice looking and eager looking fellow ::: He would make a family looking for a companion very happy … and here HE is at a HIGH KILL SHELTER… That I for one fear WILL NOT GIVE HIM A CHANCE because of his breed, and the fact he is intact!!!! SO SAD CALIFORNIA IS NOT REALLY VESTED IN RESCUES !!!! or LETTING OUT of STATE places LIKE COLORADO come and RESCUE!!! No one even bothered to post in hopes of finding this fellow a new home….

  5. So why can’t the owner search for a new home for themselves or Ice! Make an effort! Instead of a kill pound!!

  6. I think that is a bunch of bullshit when the owner can’t take their animal. So many apartments allow animals but the one the owner selected no animals allowed. I wouldn’t live there. Is there something wrong with this idiot.

  7. Ice deserved MUCH better – I will never understand why anyone would dump an animal because of some jackass landlord – MOVE! If unable to do so, have a friend or relative watch the dog until a suitable place is found for both human and dog. This seems to be the easy way out – if this is due to BSL bans – these damn things are ridiculous and unfair – each dog should be assessed on its own merits, not bunched as all being dangerous – the ONLY dangerous species is HUMAN. I hope Ice gets another home – no hold means he can be murdered at any time – Please don’t let this happen, he did nothing wrong.

  8. Sorry….. I will not, do not and would NEVER live anywhere they wouldn’t accept my fur kid. I understand some people let their pets destroy their homes…..but charge a large deposit and if your babies do not tear up your home…you get your money back. I would never give up a pet for a place to live, there are too many options out there.

  9. God I hate people.Just find a different place to live your heartless selfish piece of shit! You give up your apartment if you have to not your dog!! Was he adopted? Any update?

  10. There is no excuse to surrender any dog to a high kill shelter or any shelter for that matter. There are so many other resources out there and if you can’t find them a home then pack your shit and sleep in your car. The owner should have known the policy regarding dogs at the complex but ignored them and instead put this dog in danger of being dumped if management ever found out. Shame on you! POS owner!!

People should be euthanized not dogs. Everyone needs to join together to help in any way they can regarding these beautiful animals finding a forever home. Dogs are in demand in several states. There are no dogs available in their shelters. Rescue Express transports for free. Alls it takes is 1 person to pull a dog from a shelter to save a life. Pull that dog by adopting them feed and love tgem and help find him a forever home. It’s possible. I have done this for several dogs and they have all found loving forever homes. We need to help them!
