Last week, the tables were turned on poachers who intended to kill elephants for their tusks. According to Metro U.K., three poachers were killed in a shootout after they illegally entered Mount Elgon National Park in Kenya.
The deadly shootout
Officers on patrol spotted five poachers in the national park – two of the poachers were armed with AK-47s. What is described as a “fierce shootout” ensued – two of the poachers managed to escape and three were killed.
The deadly toll of poaching
Though the trading of ivory is banned internationally, elephants are still slaughtered for their tusks. According to WWF, in the 80s, an estimated 100,000 elephants were being killed each year. The ivory ban helped some of the elephant herds to recover, but recently, there’s been an upsurge in poaching because if the demand for ivory in Asia.
Elephant killed in protected area of Indonesia
On June 9, forest rangers discovered the body of a 27-year-old male elephant named Bunta inside the Leuser Ecosystem in Indonesia; one tusk was missing and he is presumed to have been killed by poachers, reported Mongabay. Bunta’s death is believed to be the second elephant poaching casualty in Indonesia this year.

Sorry to say it, but what GOOD NEWS!
I understand that folks are starving, But there Has to be a better way than killing these magnificent beasts also the rhinos.
I am not sorry for what happened to those folks, poachers keep this up and in a few years there will be No elephants or rhinos left. I know God gave us dominion over the animals, But I do believe He didn’t want them killed to extinction.
No pity for poachers who do this to these elephants. Glad they are dead and should have gotten the other 2 who ran away-cowards. Asia still doesn’t understand the gravity of killing these animals just for their tusks. Until killing and bringing the tusks back into their country is outlawed, they will still handsomely pay poachers to do their bidding .
Yay , less to worry about.
Poachers should be exterminated. Period. Finis.
Good leave their carcasses for the lions!
Aw…poor poachers, NOT! Good for the officers for spotting them quickly before they could kill any elephants! Keep up the good work!
I agree, it couldn’t have happened to a better bunch of scumbags.
God bless you dearest officer protectors! We desperately need you to keep up this great work!
Yay!!!!!! 2 less murderers!!!!!
Someone needs to PAINT the horns so they will be worthless. Good deal the poachers were killed. !!
That’s an awesome idea!
Any time poachers are found, they should be exterminated like the vermin they are!
I love stories like this one where the bad guys get what they deserve.
I agree with you!!!
The dead bodies of these two hunks of human trash should be hung from trees to show any other poacher what their future is destined to be. There should be some serious investigation to find out who is behind this – THEY are the true culprits – financing the poaching of these magnificent animals and causing the eventual extinction for their own greed. I have no empathy for poachers and don’t care one bit if they are all killed.
Hopefully, a lot more will be shot!
