A badly neglected, elderly dog was discovered inside of two black trash bags in Rutherford County, Tennessee. Amazingly, the dog, dubbed Buddy, was still alive – but that wouldn’t have been the case if not for the good Samaritan who took the time to stop and investigate after seeing the trash bags along a stretch of Yeargan Road last week.

Horrible neglect

Erin Lebo is the woman who stopped after seeing the black bag on the side of the road. Inside she found a dirty, matted dog who had been left for dead. Lebo took Buddy to a veterinarian who determined that the dog is between 10 and 12 years of age – the Shih Tzu is blind and deaf from untreated infections and the veterinary staff believes that he either lived his life in a cage, or was simply denied veterinary care for most of his life, reports News Channel 5.

More cruelty discovered

Lebo returned to the area where she found Buddy, to make sure that there wasn’t another abandoned dog who she may have missed. No other dogs were found alive, but she did find disturbing evidence that other dogs had been abandoned in the same area – unlike Buddy, those dogs were not found in time. Several skeletons were found in the same area – there is speculation that a breeder may be using the spot to discard unwanted dogs.

Help for Buddy

Donations for Buddy’s care can be phoned to Savannah’s Crossing Veterinary Hospital at 615-410-7697. Please be sure to indicate that funds are for Buddy.

  1. Breeder? NO!!! This would be something a puppy miller would do. There’s a huge difference!

There’s a special place in Hell for whoever’s doing this, and I hope the scumbag finds their way there ASAP.

Hopefully, this sweet dog will find a loving home soon. A Shih Tzu at that age still has a long life ahead of him, and dogs who’ve been through what he has often make the most wonderful and loving pets despite all they’ve been through. Good luck, Buddy.

  2. Tennessee and Texass!!! These two states Harbor , People that are totally beyond belief when it comes to the Neglect, Torture, Brutality, Disrespect for Life in Any Form. Deliverance Sequel’s II and III could be produced staring the individual’s for the cesspool of Animal Killers and Michael Vick could be the director of these Putrid , Hateful , and Ruthless Abusers… One can’t help but wonder if their off-spring are in the same condition health, nutritional, emotionally, Due to neglect themselves and watching Daddy , Uncle , Mommy starving, beating, torturing the very animal’s that are to be family companions… Those that treat a helpless companion animal the fashion that CONTINUES to BALLOON on an hourly basis Need to be seriously dealt with by the Very AGENCIES that are closing their eyes and turning their back on HUMANE and ETHECIAL TREATMENT of HELPLESS CREATURES and the CHILDREN UNABLE to SPEAK OUT!!!!

  3. WTF??? Is wrong with people??? Shame on this person 2 abandone this poor dog in trashbag! I hope all is well with Buddy an may she find a good 4 ever home!

  4. God bless you Erin for listening to the Holy Spirit and turning back around. God rescued Buddy through your hands.

  5. Cleaned up and groomed this little dog will have several good years remaining. If a puppy mill abandoning dogs, a camera should be set up by police and also investigating the area might show up that there is evidence to show other dead dogs and who owned them.

  6. Where is German Shepherd Rescue???? I would take this beautiful Shepherd if I could get him to Maryland. I have a Beautiful large fenced in Yard. I pray you find your furever loving home Sweet Angel.

  7. Yes, Breeders do discard unsalable dogs – breeders are no better than puppy mills – they all have the same bottom line – MONEY. Dogs/cats that are not perfect are either dumped in shelters, killed or left to fend for themselves – does anyone really think breeders just keep animals that don’t sell – no way. I want to give a standing ovation to the very kind good Samaritan who stepped, not just once, but twice to ensure Buddy was not the only dog dumped like trash. Erin Lebo, you are a hero for Buddy who would have died if not for your intervention – we could certainly use more people like you – Thanks again, you saved a life.
