A dying man was granted his final wish to say good-bye to his dog, Shep. According to The Sun, Peter Robson’s visit with his beloved border collie was made possible by the nurses at Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital.

Robson’s granddaughter, Ashley Stevens, posted a video and photos of the emotional reunion to her Facebook page and wrote:

Absolutely amazed and touched today from NHS ninewells hospital, our grandads last and final wish was to see his dog one more time. Still in shock that the wish was granted and they went above and beyond today and made a dying man very happy.

Stevens acknowledged one nurse in particular for her help – she referred to Cheryl Whyte, the charge nurse of Ward 3, as an “absolute angel.” Adding that the family was “eternally grateful,” for making the touching reunion possible.

According to several reports, Mr. Robson passed away several hours after getting to visit with his beloved dog.

To get recent postings in your Facebook feed, you must also hover your mouse over the word “following” and then click “see first” from the drop-down menu. You may want to check back with your favorite pages on occasion because Facebook often changes your settings, no longer having your favorites among those to “see first.”

  1. I am so glad to be seeing more and more of this. People love their pets, and saying goodbye helps them and I believe the pet also understands they are leaving……
Thank you to this family and the hospital that allowed this.

  2. A hospital with a heart, they truly care for the well being of their patients. Rest in peace Mr. Robson I am so glad they granted your last wish and you were able to see and pet Shep your faithful friend one more time.

  3. OMG that was so heartbreaking to watch
I just want to say thank you to the hospital who made this possible for Mr Robson to see his dog for the very last time.
May Mr Robson RIP now he will be sadly missed but never forgotten

  4. MORE HOSPITALS AND CARE FACILITIES SHOULD BE OPEN TO THIS!!! THE VA IN CHEYENNE MADE this HAPPEN over 35 years ago for my DAD and his little Dachshund Ginger!!! It was a beautiful and peaceful Goodby for them both…

  5. There are caring people in this world and hope those people enter our lives when we really need them. How wonderfull and sad at the same time. Glad his family is taking care of his dog until they meet again.

  6. Nurse Cheryl Whyte–Good job You had outstanding kindness as did grandaughter Ashley Stevens. Shep was so happy to see his person and did get to say goodbye.

  7. Many hospitals in the US will permit this. You just have to ask. The dog must be recently bathed and up to date on rabies vaccine.
More and more hospitals now have pet therapy programs also where they will bring a dog to visit a patient on request even in ICU. You just have to ask Patient Services or Volunteer Services. My dog and I are a trained and certified Pet Therapy team and we go into hospitals and nursing homes. The joy on people’s faces is amazing.
