An official diagnosis, as well as an exciting update, have been provided for a puppy who was recently dumped on a road in Texas. The pup, dubbed Republic, was near death when she was dumped on a road nearly two weeks ago – after being rescued, she continued to fight to survive.
On May 25, the rescue agency caring for Republic announced that the pup’s official diagnosis is severe gastric infection that was left untreated and resulted in sepsis shock. Republic was also severely malnourished and suffering from a serious parasite infestation which resulted in anemia.
Though Republic’s condition was grim, she is doing much better today. In fact, on Monday her rescuers announced that she has left the veterinary hospital and joined a foster home! On Monday morning, a video of Republic was posted to Facebook along with a few words about her first night:
#Republic did amazing in her foster home last night.
She is learning about love and toys and living the spoiled life.
This is the moment every rescuer waits to see in a dog they save.
Look at this happy girl!
If Republic had not been found after she was abandoned, she would have died. Given the severity of her condition when she was discovered, it appears that her short life was one of neglect. Better days are ahead for this sweet puppy – a life that she deserves is finally here.
