You might have looked at the headline twice while shaking your head, convinced no dog owner would ever surrender their 17-year-old Lab to the Baldwin Park Shelter in California, but tragically on Thursday, Moosse was betrayed.
According to shelter volunteers, Moosse’s family failed to fill out an animal profile on their dog nor did they bother to provide any information about their dog which only would have helped to find the senior a foster home or end of life care in a loving environment. Instead, he was just “dumped.”
“The shelter said Moosse is VERY FRIENDLY, quiet. alert, slow and he looks like he has a lot life left in him,” wrote a shelter volunteer on PetConnect.Us Facebook page.
Moosse has not been examined by the shelter veterinarian yet, however his brief intake records indicate he has moderate tartar, worn teeth, cloudy eyes, dirty ears, a slow gait, panting and is slightly overweight at 90 pounds. A shelter is the last place this dog should be. Please share his plight with approved rescue organizations, families, friends and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives.

Hope this owners have children. Hope their children are as good as their parents. Hope these children’s cruelty will exceed the cruelty of the parents. None of them deserves this dog.

I agree w/you 100% – this piss poor example of a ‘family’ deserves to get exactly what they gave Moosse – NO MERCY. I hope they end up in some dump of a nursing home full of bed sores and no visits – they deserve no less.

I agree! It’s the fault of Baldwin, however, if they pushed the issue…I would hate to think what would have happened to Moosse. They may have brought him to some secure area and left him.
Shame on the owner. Moose gave his best years to this family and instead of celebrating Moose’s long life, the heartless owner abandoned him. I pray a kind person would adopt Moose, so he can live out his remaining time in a loving home. It doesn’t appear Moose will live much longer.
Can only hope that the owners kids dump them at nursing home when they get old. Karma bites
Anyone who is fortunate enough to have their dog live to 17 should be treating them like the special pet they are and NOT dumping them like this in a kill shelter. I pray Moosse finds his way into a loving home for the remainder of his days. Whoever dumped him can rot in Hell!

I agree. My oldest Lab will be 15 in July. Part of the reason I just took early retirement a week ago was to spend time with her. Moosse deserves to live his final months (hopefully YEARS) with a family who wants him.
Our dog lived to be almost 15. She was old and had cancer, had cataracts and smelled and I was so grateful to be retired so I could bake cookies for her and make her last years good ones. I miss her so much. These people disgust me. They don’t deserve a dog. I hope Moosse finds a loving home for whatever time she has left.

Just so everyone knows, since this dog was an owner surrender, he can be PTS at any time after the end of the first day (today May 4th) that he is available.

So called owners should have the same done to them when they are elderly.Couldn’t provide any information about your dog that would help get him adopted? Hope & pray he finds a loving and caring family for the remainder of his time here.He would do well at Best Friends Sanctuary where he would be well taken care of.
