In Ashford, Alabama neighbors contend a dog believed to have had a  fatal head injury with a crushed skull oozing with infection was left to suffer for days before he died. Even though the dog’s owners were aware of the seriousness of the injury, which occurred on Sunday, for three days the dog wandered the neighborhood – crying and moaning in extreme agony.

According to DothamFirstNews, neighbors called authorities and the Houston County Humane Society, however no one responded.

The heartbreaking account of the situation and how this dog suffered was described by Brittany Paige Bramlett on her Facebook page:

“Someone should bring justice for this dog. This is a sad situation and just awful that this dog had to die such a painful and horrible death due to his owner not caring enough. My mother-in-law and I heard crying and moaning coming from the backyard. Instinctively we walked out thinking it was her cat. Instead we found a white and brown bull dog balled up suffering, crying in pain. Looks as if someone beat him of cracked his skull open, his head was swollen with fluids pouring out and maggots.”

As the details of the dog’s injuries became known, the situation became even more heartbreaking:

“Come to find out the owner knew he was hurt and possibly gonna (sic) die several days prior and he deliberately told us and others not to put it down. If you ask me it sounds like animal cruelty!! No dog should have to suffer.”

Animal Control refused to come out and help until the following day, even though the dog was in agony.

“Finally got the owner but dog was screaming in pain and yet again he said not put it down eventually we had to get someone else to put it down to haul it off. So sad … if you have animals you know all too well they aren’t just animals they are family and should be treated as so.”

The situation is now under investigation as well as why authorities who had been notified did not respond.

Rest in peace little guy.

  1. I will never understand why people don’t do their jobs! The people that would not come out to put this dog out of it’s misery should be fired. They should also be prosecuted for animal abuse since they did nothing! I’m so sorry pup, the human race failed you, RIP now.

    • Pamela, I totally agree with you, I would have went into the yard and got the dog and taken it to a vet. of course then I would have been taken to jail, but small price to pay to put the poor dog out of its misery,

  2. YOU… FUCKING… BASTARDS!
OWNER-NEIGHBORS-ANIMAL CONTROL-POLICE: FUCK EVERY ONE OF YOU HEARTLESS, HEINOUS ASS-HOLES!
This town and it’s entire population should be wiped from the face of the earth: NO SOULS, NO COMPASSION, NO “HUMANITY” – NOWHERE TO BE FOUND THERE!
I cannot IMAGINE the suffering of this poor, precious soul… AND NO ONE DID A GODDAM THING TO HELP – TO EASE HIS PAIN???
DAMN YOU – DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!

    • EVERY one of these human maggots are responsible for knowing this poor dog was in agony and doing NOTHING. Apparently, Ashford Alabama is full of human trash – from the owner, the neighbors, and Animal Control – YOU are all responsible for allowing this poor dog to suffer due to your negligence and lack of humanity. May you all get exactly what you gave – NO MERCY!

  3. RIP sweet pup, you’re no longer in pain, run free! It’s so heartbreaking to read this report. What the hell is wrong with the POS owner and others to allow the dog to suffer so much. I believe it’s the owner who cracked this dog’s head open and should be punished. I call for street justice and hang the human trash!

  4. hmm let me get this straight the owner did nothing and knew BUT the loser neighbors knew and DID NOTHING EITHER,all a bunch of scumbags

  5. Why didn’t anyone help this dog this story is horrible I would of helped the dog in any way I could have brought it to emergency vet etc how could you all sit there and watch this animal suffer that poor dog crying out in pain and nobody in that town does anything you all have blood from that dog on your hands I hope you all carry this guilt and here his cry for the rest of your lives

  6. You fucking bunch of heartless people I would love to see someone you love your family come down with the disease or fucking dies and you have to suffer for the rest of your life with it you deserve it go fuck yourselves

  7. Those MF BASTARDS who were supposed to take care of this innocent dog were responsible for what happened to their dog: they undoubtedly did this to him, and allowed him to suffer in the most heinous way possible.

It sounds to me like these scumbags are the NEIGHBORHOOD BULLIES, and everyone is afraid of them or otherwise someone would have done right by the dog. However, that does NOT excuse the lazy, ignorant asshat cops / ACOs who did NOTHING when their jobs require them to answer the call. If this guy is a bully and a scumbag, better to take him out if he gets nasty and decides to cause a ruckus, which is what he deserves anyway, than to allow the dog to suffer.

  8. I bet the owner also notified the police and animal control about the fact not only was his dog injured seriously by who and what?), but also told them not to come out because the dog was ready to die. How in God’s name can anyone hear their dog cry and moan in agony and not allow even a neighbor to put the dog out of his misery. At least that would have stopped this dog’s pain from enduring for days and then dying. Those owners should be shot, then thrown in jail, but that won’t happen because there is no caring for animals in that community by anyone wh0d has the compassion to help this animal.

  9. Heartbreaking ????????????I am very sorry we humans failed you???????????????????????????? I know you are in Heaven. Please look for MacKitty & you can RIP with his loving group of snuggle buddies…..

It’s absolutely heartbreaking how awful and callous some individuals can be to defenseless animals……

I just know that anyone who is deliberately cruel to others (people and animals) will burn in Hell forever for their cruelty…… Here’s hoping they get there ASAP after suffering in pain, alone, terrified and worst of all, unloved as they die (as they did to others)…….

  10. That poor baby, how cruel for the owners to let him suffer like that. I am willing to be they were the ones who inflicted the injuries too. Please someone get some justice for this poor dog! Shame on everyone who did nothing when called, do your jobs!

  11. Now that was a stupid comment! Politics has nothing to do with it, Abusers come in a variety, every sex, color, nationality, religion,
democrats and republicans have low life animal abusers.. I can see why you did not have the courage to put your name.

  12. I have seen this exact wound before! This dogs head was ran over by a car!!!! This is terrible!!!! Justice for this poor animal!!!!

  13. WTF!!!!????? WHY DIDN’T ANYONE CHECK ON THIS POOR DOG???? THE OWNERS NEED TO BE PUNISHED AND GO STRAIGHT TO PRISON!!!

  14. The owner should suffer the same consequences! Damn him forever that piece of rotten humanity, soulless basturd from hell!!! I wish you ill!

  15. To all you A$$holes who are talking crap about the neighbors, they are the only ones who did something!

    You bunch of idiots!

No, the neighbors couldn’t take it to the vet THEY CALLED AND THE VET SAID UNLESS YOU CAN PAY FOR IT they won’t see it. They had no money to pay for it! It’s not their dog! How stupid can some of you be? What is someone supposed to do when it’s not theirs and they don’t have the means to do anything financially? Explain that? I mean really, you people are judgmental A$$holes and obviously a few snowflakes mixed in.

Then to say it’s Trump state? It damn sure is! TRUMP! That has nothing to do with this dog. So, don’t act like that means something, cause it just makes you look ignorant. Now, you should say thanks to the people who forced the owner to finally do something. Instead of talking crap and being rude, you have no class and your words mean nothing. I’d love to see some of you in the situation, being in the same boat as the people who made the calls.

The owner should be prosecuted for sure!

The sheriff was out today at the neighbors who called, they went to the people’s homes who called and the owner’s house. I wish I knew what happened, but I don’t know any of the people. I live near them but never saw the dog myself in this manner. He was fine last time I saw him.

Even I wouldn’t have been able to take that dog to any vet living paycheck to paycheck barely keeping our family afloat! That’s why those comments piss me off!

  16. This post is to address the situation with the dog in Ashford that was injured and passed away from its injuries. First, we are very saddened by the situation and the suffering and death of the dog. WDHN ran a story on their local news and Facebook page saying that the neighbors called and were unsuccessful at getting help for the dog from the WHS. The WHS did receive a call from a concerned neighbor. The employee who spoke with the neighbor instructed her to call the Houston County Sheriff’s Department due to the fact that this appeared to be an animal neglect/abuse case. The WHS does not go out and pick up animals. The dog was injured and the owner was refusing to get help for the animal. The neighbor did then contact the sheriff’s department and from what we understand they responded. The WHS is a rescue/adoption center. We do not have law enforcement officers, animal control officers or cruelty investigators. We are not HSUS. Our staff consists of a manager, receptionist, kennel workers, a vet tech and volunteers. None of these people have law enforcement or animal control training and they cannot legally just go out and go onto someone’s property and take a dog. We cannot put our staff or volunteers in a situation that is possibly dangerous and they are not trained or equipped to handle. The WHS staff did exactly what they were supposed to do in this situation. They instructed the caller how to go about getting help for the animal. This was a law enforcement issue to be handled by law enforcement. The WHS cannot charge people with animal cruelty. Again, law enforcement must do this!! We do not know the exact location where this dog was. We do not know the name of the owner of this dog. The purpose of this post is to clarify what happened. It is not to debate the issue on Facebook!! Please do not “burn up” our phone or email, as we have seen some on FB requesting, demanding the name of the owner or demanding to know why we did not go get the dog. We need our phone lines free to answer calls regarding adoptions!! Thank you for your understanding.

I had emailed the animal control in this area and they responded so I am posting their response. We can thank the people who tried to get help for the dog. We can hope the neglecting abusive owners of the dog face charges. Pray for the poor dog and may he rest in peace

  17. Just passing the buck when this poor dog was suffering I bet nothing has been done to the owner of this suffering animal while you were all accusing each other this poor dog suffered and died no blaming is going to change that
