A stray dog, doing her utmost to survive without care, was hungry and someone did the unthinkable…rather than helping her by offering some food, she was shot multiple times. Now, the dog is malnourished, and gravely injured – in fact, she may not be strong enough to survive surgery.
The heartbreaking situation was shared with followers of the Second Chances Animal Rescue in Pontotoc, MS, on Sunday:
She has been shot at least twice. Once in the leg and once in the neck. It looks like a bullet may have grazed her face as well. She has zero mobility of her leg. She is currently struggling to breathe and I’m afraid she has blood or fluid in her lungs. She is skin and bones so it’s doubtful she will even survive any type of surgery. I tried to give her pain medicine and antibiotics but she can’t swallow due to her neck injury. I wrapped her bleeding neck and that’s about all I can do for her.
The rescue group expressed outrage and disgust over the cruelty this dog experienced – all because of her effort to ease the ache of hunger in her stomach:
She didn’t do A DAMN THING to deserve this. Her picture was posted on Thursday because she was hungry and eating out of someone’s trash. Then a day later she was seen limping on her leg. Now today she was found, bleeding from her neck from a fresh gunshot wound. ALL BECAUSE SHE WAS HUNGRY.
How about stepping up and not being a freaking monster and offering her some kibble or turkey instead of attempted murder? One gunshot wound MIGHT could have been an accident. Two? Plus the graze on her nose? Not a chance. I don’t have it in me today to even be mad about it. All I can do is cry for her and wonder how people who are cruel to animals can sleep at night 😞.
The injured dog has been dubbed Claire – please keep her in your thoughts as she fights to survive.
