In Mesquite, Texas, a sweet pit bull named Wayne is lucky just to be alive. On Friday afternoon, he was deliberately thrown from a car and landed on his face; crushing his nasal cavity and mouth. Rescue Dogs Rock NYC immediately came to the rescue.
“Fortunately after this horrific act of abuse upon Wayne, he was spotted running down the highway, and an amazing person spent 40 minutes trying to catch him,” Stacey Silverstein, co-founder of the rescue organization, wrote on Facebook after posting the heartbreaking photos of the dog in critical need. “Blood was spurting out of his face onto her car seat, and she raced to the shelter where she knew they would take care of him. We got the plea and immediately agreed to help Wayne.”
And so Wayne was rushed across the street to the emergency veterinarian hospital, and for the next four hours underwent the complicated surgery to repair his crushed nasal cavity that had peeled away from his nasal opening, his gums and his mouth. Because of the horrific injury, the dog was not able to eat or drink; the surgery couldn’t wait.
Wayne remains in critical condition, however the veterinarian staff are amazed how he continues to fight for his life. He has a long road to recovery and is expected to remain at the hospital for a few weeks until he is stable and stronger.
“The staff is totally in love with him and say he’s pure sweetness and so kind to everyone he meets,” Stacey added. “Even through the excruciating pain, Wayne only seeks out love.”
So many acts of evil – fortunately the angels still outnumber them. Get well soon Wayne. Everyone is wishing you a complete recovery.
