In a bitter sweet story of a tiny dog who was surrendered to Stray Rescue of St. Louis last week by her owner, who days later committed suicide, and left a heartbreaking note to find her beloved dog a home will now be pampered and cuddled for the rest of his life.

Crystal  Chrisp wrote she had lost her battle with cancer.

“I am writing to you cause I need you to take my dog Shell. My mother adopted Shell from Stray Rescue around 2009-2010… In 2012 she had a massive stroke and now has Alzheimers. So in 2012 Shell came to live with me. I’ve been fighting cancer for a few months and if you’re reading this I lost my battle. I need for my baby girl to be taking [sic] care of in a home with one person.”

Shell is a very sweet little girl. She’s been threw [sic] a lot so she has trouble with trust in the beginning. She loves to cuddle but doesn’t like to be carried. She’s very smart.”

Tragically just days later, Crystal whose cancer had returned for a second time, committed suicide.

Stray Rescue honored Crystal’s wishes. Once Shell’s plight hit social media, adoption applications began to flood in, but to find the perfect home for Shell would take extra scrutiny since the dog had a lot to deal with these last few years. And then Shell’s new companion came forth as if the two were destined to be together. A woman who had recently lost her pup in July felt the pull towards Shell.

“Then, a wonderful lady saw the news segment and knew it was time for her to adopt after losing her Stray Rescue dog Trenton, in July. She just felt so drawn to her. Wasting no time, she filled out an application and was here the very next morning. The two of them hit it off and she knew it was definitely the right time. She says Shell is already running the house, and that they are inseparable. We are honored to have fulfilled the final wish of her Mom, who is no longer with us. We promise she will be spoiled for the rest of her life.”

  1. Well this has been a tragically sad story from the beginning, but I’m so thankful that Crystal’s last wish has been fulfilled and that her precious, beautiful little Shell has gotten a new furever Mum and home. God bless this lovely lady, and RIP Crystal.

  2. Shells former mom is taking care of her from heaven. She has a new mom and I hope new mom keeps Shells name! ????????????❤️????????????????????
