Dog burned by intense heat and sun

The intense Texas heat caused horrible burns to a dog who was not provided protection from the sun. On Monday, the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services posted images of the grievously wounded dog, and a few words of warning to other pet owners.

The warning

Animal care services wrote:

Warning: These pics are graphic and tough to look at. We’d like to give shout out to Animal Defense League for taking in Molly, who was brought in with thermal burns from lack of protection from the sun.

PLEASE provide shelter and shade for your outdoor pets. If it’s hot for you, it’s hot for them.

Dog burned

Intense heat

Just one day before Molly’s graphic images were posted, the animal care services agency had warned pet owners about intense heat expected in the area:

It’s going to be a H-O-T today! Please be sure to keep your pets inside and limiting their time outside. Exposing your pet to temperatures over 115 degrees(F) can cause burns, blisters, and permanent damage to your pet’s skin/paws.

When walking your dog, try to walk them before 10 am – after 7 pm and under shaded areas!

Be mindful of your pet’s comfort and safety

If it’s too hot for you to walk barefoot on the sidewalk or asphalt – it’s too hot for your pet. If it’s too hot for you to sit in direct sunlight, it’s too hot for your pet. If you are miserable in the heat…so is your pet. Provide adequate water (fresh and cold), plenty of shade/shelter from the sun. Ideally, keep your pets inside with you!

  1. Such stupid, ignorant people who still don’t realize that if it is hot for you outside, it is the same for your dog or cat. That not only includes walking them and leaving them in your backyard without any shade or water, but especially leaving them in your car in that heat, which could be 20 degrees hotter inside the car than outside.

  2. This is as bad as leaving your poor dog in a hot car! I hope the person who let this happen is being charged with neglect at least. They should be made to pay for the vet bills!

  3. Pray for his recovery horrible creeps who did this act I hope they are punished & put in the desert & die I hope doggie will get healthy & recer asap bg

  5. I thought at my tender age of 20/30 nothing would bother me, but now at 77, I am shocked at how stupid and cruel a lot of morons can be, with ads on tv about pets, are morons deaf????

  6. My late dog loved the sun but got a sunburn, nothing like that After trying many ways, we ended up building an enclosed yard with a big tarp that kept him out of the sun when we were at work.

  7. How unbelievably ignorant can people really be? This isn’t rocket science: if we have to wear sunscreen to keep from burning, and it’s way too hot for us, what the devil do they think it’s like for them? Ignorant a***s!

  8. O Texas you grow the dumbest, most ignorant, uncaring and lazy humans in the country. HOW could anyone look at this poor dog and no see the horrific condition you let Molly get into? I hope she can recover – this is horrible to see – I swear some people should have been aborted not birthed – and this maggot should be hogtied and dumped in the Texas desert – see how they like being treated like trash.
