It happened in Brooklyn when a Good Samaritan spotted a dog left tied to a tree with a sign reading ‘take me.” On Monday morning, Eric Maus had been walking dogs when he spotted Mamas, a seven-year-old pit bull, chained to a tree in Prospect Park.

According to the New York Post, the sign that hung from the tree stated,

“Take me. I’m a great dog. Don’t let my size scare you. I’m sweet.”

Of course, the dog lover couldn’t just walk away and when he asked the dog where her owner was, Mamas just looked at him quizzically as if to say, “I wish I knew. I’ve been waiting.” Maus and neighbors untied her from the tree and noticed she had been urinating blood, but were able to get the help of the Sean Casey Animal Rescue who is helping her and nursing her back to help.

Once she’s recuperated, the black and white – oh so adorable pooch, will be ready for a home where she will never again worry about being abandoned.

Many thanks to Eric and neighbors for being a hero to one of our four-legged friends in need of help.

  1. Animal abusers every wonder if their mother tied them to a tree when they were a baby with a sign saying “TAKE ME.” Too bad this didn’t happen to this low life scum of the earth. Humans are the most destructive scums of the earth to destroy an innocent animal. Hope they all get a taste of their own medicine, rot and slowly die in pain. You have to be a monster to tie a dog to a tree and walk away and still continue your life without thinking what the hell you did.

  2. I feel as sad for this precious girl’s owner/s as for the her. I think it’s indicative of a loving owner/s whose circumstances changed in such a way that they could no longer take care of her but still loved her dearly but were perhaps embarrassed to ask for whatever help it is they need. I really don’t feel this one is abandonment by choice, or abuse. Perhaps the owner is chronically ill and has entered a hospice and has nobody else to take care of his/her beautiful, beloved companion. Perhaps they have desperate financial difficulties and did not know where to turn for help for their doggy’s illness. Spare a thought for the owner/s in this case. No I’m not a “ bleeding heart “, i have no-one to call on in such circumstances either, and am well aware that I could very well be in the same position one day, qthere but for the Grace of God. My Thoughts and Prayers are for a new loving furever home for this beautiful girl, and the right kind of help for her owner/s.
There is a season for compassion on both sides.

  3. It’s a good thing the right person found her and found help with the Sean Casey Animal Rescue, she could have been found and off to the dog fighting arena as a bait dog. No we don’t know the owner’s circumstances but to abandon a dog like this is NOT the way to handle it.

  4. As some have said, possibly owner had problems and didn’t want to abandon their dog like this but truly didn’t know what to do or where to turn. At least Mamas was rescued and will be getting the forever home she deserves.
