Besides the railroad tracks, a dog hit by a train crawled away a few inches, curled up into a ball and waited for death to take away his intense pain. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan called Animal Aid Unlimited in the Badi Village of Udaipur, India. On Tuesday, the organization told Nemo’s story and the struggle this pup overcame to fight the odds.

When he was found, Nemo was disoriented; his breathing was extremely labored, and his nose had been split in two. The dog was close to death. His rescuer stayed by the dog’s side and when it was time, was able to wrap him in a blanket and transport him back to the hospital area. He was immediately placed on oxygen to help him breathe.

Nemo’s most dangerous health issue concerned his collapsed lung. A tube was placed in his chest to expand his lung and help him to be able to breathe normally again.

And then came the operation on his split nose and upper lip.

Nemo’s condition had to be stabilized with fluids and other medications. With so many life threatening conditions, it was not known if Nemo could pull through. The odds were against him despite the best efforts of the veterinarians treating him.

Was it medical intervention, surgical procedures, love or compassion that prompted Nemo to survive? Perhaps it was a combination of everything. Make sure to watch Nemo’s amazing battle. ( WARNING: Some scenes are graphic, but the outcome is worth it.)
