In a disturbing video, posted on a social media site on Thanksgiving Day, showing a caged cat kicked into a pond, is now under investigation in Lafayette, Indiana.  The video showed a black cat wearing a pink collar in a trap balanced near the edge of a dock, and moments later the teen kicks the cage into the pond where it becomes submerged.

According to the Facebook page of Lost and Found Pets of Greater Lafayette, a 17-year-old teen  made the video:

“A local man posted a public video on his Instagram of a black cat with a pink collar sitting on a dock of a small pond. He proceeds to say, “Ready?” to a man sitting in a Black vehicle. He responds, “Yep!” The video pans over to the vehicle and then back to the cat. His white shoe is seen kicking the cat inside the humane live trap into the water and watching it sink as the cat cries in terror.”

Detectives from the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office were informed about the disturbing video on Monday. Ken Baldwin, the owner of the 52 Mobile Home Estates was inside of the black vehicle seen in the video. The Journal & Courier report the teen and Baldwin have been cooperating with authorities after the video, posted to Instagram, had become available for public viewing. The video settings have since been changed to private, but not before a conversation included “RIP, Lil Robert” – the assumed name of the cat.

When asked why the teen made the video, he stated it was his job to get rid of animals abandoned by their previous owners. In the past, however, despite repeated offers to help abandoned animals including feral cats, Baldwin has refused all help.

“… it’s just a job like if I work at Burger King imma make burgers it’s just a job it’s there fault for not paying rent for months and months,” the teen wrote on his Instagram account.

Maybe there will be justice for Lil Robert…

“So the good news, with as much information as was posted publicly, the authorities know who is involved. We are happy this is making its way to the prosecutor’s office. They need to see their day in court and be held accountable for their actions. This is animal cruelty. In Tippecanoe County, If a pet is abandoned in an apartment, Animal Control should be notified and they will pick up the pet and take it to the shelter. The owner will be sent an animal abandonment citation and held accountable. Regarding stray and feral cats, there are TNR programs in place in Tippecanoe County. Even humane euthanasia could be an option better than this one.

Sadly, we are also looking for a possible owner of the cat referred to as Robert, wearing a pink collar who may have been left in a rental property.”

  1. Beyond absolutely disgusting!!! I work as a property manager for mobile home parks. Sadly we have our share of pet abandonment by residents moving out of the park without them as well as individuals driving onto park premises and simply dumping their unwanted animals (Can’t for the life of me understand it at all)……
The law in our area states that if one cares for and feeds an animal for more than 30 days, that animal is theirs.
We first try to rehome in the Park (familiar environment). If we can’t rehome within the park, then park employees can adopt the pet. If and only if the above methods fail, then we take the pet to the humane society shelter.
It’s clear to me that these 2 POSs have been murdering animals for a long time. We will never know how many innocent loving pets were murdered.
Poor precious treasures murdered by these POSs……. your lives mattered and you deserve justice!!! RIP precious treasures……. Your lives were stolen from you….. You didn’t deserve to be murdered…… being drowned must have been absolutely terrifying…….
I am heartbroken for all of you, precious little treasures …….You should have all grown older (loved and been loved) and been beloved family members……. please look for MacKitty in Heaven….. you will be welcome to join his group of snuggle buddies…….. so sorry that you were failed so horribly by humans……..
The POSs who murdered all of these precious treasures will burn in Hell forever for their cruelty…… here’s hoping that they get there ASAP (after dying horrible deaths alone, afraid, in agony & (worst of all) unloved)……

  2. Sick people. It’s not the animals fault if the owners dont pay rent. Those people have no heart. I hope karma bites them really hard because one day they will be held accountable for their actions.
