Angry post from horribly injured dog

The discovery of a horribly injured dog in Tennessee prompted an angry post against tethering by the Friends of Hartsville, TN Animal Shelter Facebook page. The photos accompanying the social media post speak volumes about the awful suffering a dog endured while living on a tether.

The angry post

Monday’s Facebook post reads:

Tethering/chaining dogs should be banned!

Not only do they suffer neglect living a life of solitary, they are prey to other animals and cannot get away if/when attacked. They are often injured by their chains, tethers and collars.
They live in misery 24/7: heat, flies, fleas & ticks, often no water or shade during the hot months.

And continues:

They are freezing cold, rained/snowed on, frozen water bowl, sleeping in mud or puddles in the cold months.
This is just awful, heartbreaking and unacceptable!
They are not “just a dog”…they are living, breathing animals who are very social and require love, attention, exercise, positive training, socialization, vetting, clean water, good food and a warm, dry cozy place to sleep.
DOGS ARE FAMILY NOT LIVESTOCK!!!

Imagine

Imagine the emotional pain that a dog endures while living outside on the end of a chain…the loneliness and isolation. The discomfort endured as the days become miserably hot in the summer and bitterly cold in the winter. The misery when the wind blows and the rain pours…and back again to the one thing that likely hurts dogs the most – the sadness from being alone.

If you don’t intent to make your dog part of your family – don’t get a dog. Get a pet rock.

  1. NOTHING BUT A BUNCH OF LOW LIFE ASSHOLES TETHERING AN ANIMAL AND TREATING THEM LIKE GARBAGE. THIS IS WHAT THEIR STUPID MOTHER SHOULD HAVE DONE TO THEM PUT A ROPE AROUND THEIR NECK AND TIE THEM TO A TREE AS SOON AS THEY WERE BORN THEN THE BASTARDS WOULDN’T BE HERE.

  2. Hope this dog in TN is taken care of and joins a new family once he has recovered. Why have a dog if it is outside all the time and tethered? Restricting an animals movement is terrible.

  3. I cannot understand why people tether dogs at all. If they haven’t got secure ffencing and can’t afford it, they shouldn’t get a dog until they can. I think it’s high time there was mandatory animal care & ownership responsibility training for anyone and everyone, regardless of age before they can own an animal. There’s puppy school and doggy school, why the hell don’t they train prospective owners? They should also have to do a refresher course every time they want to have another or new animal. If they get found in any failure in duty of care, then they relinquish their animal/s at their own cost for boarding and redo the training course. Harsh? Not compared to what millions of animals suffer every year.

  4. My dog is very picky too. I am glad we tried this dog food but I got him the Freshpet Select (fresh from the kitchen) it only lasts him 5days maybe I should try that next time. Thank you for sharing.
