In Houston, Texas, Archer was picked up late Sunday evening after Animal Control found him with an arrow through his body. Red Collar Rescue was notified and asked if they could help.

On Monday, after having been stabilized, Archer made the trip to Texas A&M where a CAT scan helped veterinarian surgeons figure out how best to remove the arrow which had penetrated his thorax, diaphragm, abdomen and liver. During surgery, the fiberglass arrow was removed; Archer went into distress during surgery and was quickly sewn up, brought out of anesthesia and given a blood transfusion and help in breathing. Tragically, the dog’s lungs had been damaged by the arrow.

A small glimpse of optimism appeared as surgeons hoped Archer was strong enough to survive a second surgery to repair his lungs. The entire staff stayed late to give this boy every chance for survival, but again he went into distress during surgery. Despite the best efforts, Archer was not strong enough to survive and could not be revived.

“We were so hopeful based on his spirit and his sweetness, despite the obvious pain that he was in. He wanted to crawl up in the front seat during his transport to be nearer to a kind soul.”

“When I got to A&M at Midnight, the vet was waiting. They were expecting a very distressed dog. He greeted them with a tail wag and gladly got transferred from my arms to the tech – like “oh great, a hug from another person.” They took him back for his work up and I headed home, feeling very hopeful because he certainly has the spirit to survive – and I was VERY thankful that Red Collar intervened,” a volunteer posted on the organization’s Facebook page.

Please note the Red Collar Rescue raised $3,000 for Archer, however his medical bills have already exceeded $8,000. Donations can be made to his memory by clicking here.

Rest in peace Archer. It is not known if a criminal investigation has been ordered.

  1. You piece of shit Texas

This one with arrow and the other with bullets
    DO SOMETHING
    ASSHOLES

  2. I am so heart broken for this little guy that had such a will to Live::; His life was taken by an Evil, Demonic, Abuser, and I can ONLY WISH THE SAME for the Person that did this… May Karma Come Forth!!!

  3. My heart is just breaking for this sweet beautiful soul. How anyone could do this to any animal is beyond my wildest nightmares. RIP baby. I am so sorry you did not know more love except at the very end of your life. Run free now over the Rainbow Bridge. A lot of kind humans are sad that you have been treated this way. I pray they find the horrible culprit that did this to you.

  4. A criminal investigation MUST be ordered! In any case, Archer’s murderer will ROT in HELL–hopefully, on earth, too!

  5. Looks like this poor guy was also starved. Unfortunately, the area this is located is low life and where all the scumbags live called trash buckets. It is hard for me to believe if a lot of these bastards work. This poor dog either was homeless or thrown away like trash by someone in that piss poor trash area had nothing better to do in their life but to shoot at this dog. I am going to repeat myself all these coward low life scumbags who abuse animals deserve to slowly rot with cancer and set on fire to die on the side of the road. Hope all these POS in this area have a short rotten painful future.

  6. Looks like he was almost starved too, and then some raging idiot pierces his poor body with an arrow? Heaven has one more stunningly beautiful angel now, and HELL awaits with some very special treatments for the MORON that did this ridiculous, sadistic thing, and probably much else equally hateful in his “life.”

  7. I pray the wrath of God finds the ENTIRE STATE OF TEXAS WITH HURRICANE AFTER HURRICANE AFTER HURRICANE, CAUSING SEVERE FLOODING AND DEATH! You’ve had 3 years to improve this Texas, YOU derelict law makers, mayors and governor, YOU DID NOTHING! THAT is WHY I’m DEMANDING the eye for an eye rule be invoked and it’s wrath laid out upon those evil doers in Texas. I demand justice for YOUR animals, Lord God our Savior, PLEASE wipe this state CLEAN with an intense, unrelenting STRING of hurricanes followed by devastating flooding, wiping out EVERYTHING and EVERYONE in it’s path. Sick of having to send YOU money because YOU DO NOTHING to stop this shit! You’re on your own now, will not shed another tear over you vile, sadistic ass wipes in your HATE FILLED state! DEATH TO ALL YOU SUB-HUMAN MAGGOTS!

  8. Archer, I’m sorry you had to wait until the end of your life to know love and care. It comforts me a little to know that you will never be hurt again, bless your heart. Many thanks & all blessings to everyone who helped Archer and all the animals they rescue.

  9. WTF is wrong in Houston? My husband lived there (& is an animal rescuer)…… I don’t understand WTF is going on???

This is absolutely disgusting. How can anyone be so callous and cruel?

Poor precious puppy Archer ……. your life mattered and you deserve justice!!! RIP precious treasure……. Your life was stolen from you….. You didn’t deserve to be murdered…… being shot with an arrow through your body must have been absolutely terrifying…….

I am heartbroken you couldn’t survive this horrible experience…….You should have grown older (loved and been loved) and been a beloved family member……. please look for MacKitty in Heaven….. you will be welcome to join his group of snuggle buddies…….. so sorry that you were failed so horribly by humans……..

The POS who murdered this precious treasure will burn in Hell forever for his cruelty…… here’s hoping that he gets there ASAP (after dying a horrible death alone, afraid, in agony & (worst of all) unloved)……

  10. Whomever is responsible needs to be tied to a tree and let the pet owners shot them with a bow see how it feels. WTF is wrong with some humans? So hateful RIP Archer. To hell with the guilty praying you are found and prosecuted to the fullest… Makes me sick some humans are so cruel to the innocent

  11. Rest in peace sweetheart, so sorry that some horrible evil person did this to you. I pray they find this evil person and make them pay for what they did to you.

  12. Hope the police can get information from the arrow to find the scum who did this. Too many dogs being shot and not much being done to prevent it from happening. Our justice system is a joke letting people who have been let out of jail only to commit further crimes and torturing animals. An investigation definitely needs to be done now.

  13. As a native Houstonian,I am so sick of the animal cruelty in this town. What the hell is the matter with people. I know it is everywhere but it seems more prevalent here. The judges need to be firmer with these assholes

  14. Tears this afternoon for little Radar’s situation though I believe he has now been adopted, little Shell whose Mum with cancer took her own life, and now Archer has succumbed to his wounds. I think the whole human population of Texas (excepting those who work in rescue) needs to be relocated to the North Pole without supplies and see how they fair then – isolated and starving the way they treat their loving devoted animals. One of my friends would tell me to stop reading these emails, but although they make me sad and angry, they also help me to stay grateful for what I have that millions of precious animals have not. I rent, ergo can’t have animals, so I use the money that would feed and care for my animals to help rescues to get a bit closer to their “in the black” targets. If all of us who love animals would do this, then we could make a difference for many more of them. RIP Archer, stay young, run free. I pray every day for the animals, not just our email story ones, but all of the ones who have no loving caring human in their life. There but for the Grace of God go all of us.
I’m sorry if I rambled a bit too long, but I said what was on my heart.
