Despite the efforts of motivated volunteers, there is devastating news to report about the dog who was trapped for several days between rocks in Ellijah, Georgia. The “final” update on the viral Facebook post about the hopelessly trapped dog, named Hansom, reads:
“The dog has passed away around 1:30am EST. No they were still not able to reach him fully to get the dog out. Hansom died on his own. He was already injured from being wedged to deep in there so long. They had volunteers and professional rock climbers there doing all they could.”
Someone who visited the site where the dog, described as a senior hound, was trapped, stated that the area was treacherous and impossible to get heavy equipment to. A portion of the individual’s description outlines the difficult situation, “it is an 3/4 hr hike to the side of the mountain and another 1/2 hr climb almost on hands and knees to get to the small cliff – the boulders are as big as trucks and when trenching in you happen on another boulder – the dog is 13 yrs old coon hound and must have followed a coon into the cave and then slid into crevice – rock climbers squeezed themselves into the cave as far as they can go and can only reach a finger tip to him through a 16” opening.”
The dog had been stuck between the boulders for several days – the more he struggled to get out, the further he slipped into the crevice. Prior article about this horrible situation here.

RIP sweet Hansom and we were all rooting for your safe return. So many people tried but it was not meant to be. You passed knowing that humans were doing all they could to rescue you. Run to your hearts content over the rainbow bridge.
Oh this is so sad, how this poor dog died! Rest in peace Hansom, what an ordeal you suffered! bless all that tried to help him, you are all true heroes.
