In Logan County, West Virginia, deputies from the sheriff’s department are asking for the public’s help finding the culprit who severed the dog’s tendons in her back legs. Authorities believe it was a deliberate case of animal cruelty.
According to the rescue group, Paws Squad, who is caring for the dog now dubbed Clarice, she is not able to walk, and is both severely emaciated and dehydrated after she was found on Wednesday. Investigators state a woman had called 911 from the Rossmore area where she found the dog. The dog had been wearing a collar, but there was no information on it.
According to veterinarians, Clarice’s leg tendons had been sliced. The “worst leg” with all of the tendons exposed had two cuts – one straight across and one up and down which resulted in severing the tendons and separating the muscles. Surgery was performed. Pins and screws will hold the leg together. The left leg will need to have the same procedure performed, and after eight weeks, hopefully she will be able to walk once all the surgical hardware is able to be removed.
Tragically, Clairice’s injuries appear to be a month old. How she endured the pain and even survived is amazing.
