In Alden, Michigan, a 38-year-old deer hunter was accidentally shot and killed by another hunter on opening day of firearm deer hunting season this week.
According to KomoNews, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources [DNR], the Michigan State Police and Antrim County Sheriff’s Deputies, were called to the scene of the accident last Thursday morning. Justin Beutel was pronounced dead at the scene as emergency first responders tried to revive him.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that Mr. Beutel was deer hunting on private property and was apparently shot by another subject hunting nearby,” said Lt. James Gorno, a district law supervisor with the DNR.
“The second hunter, who is not being identified, was a 45-year-old man from Gaylord.”
The men had not been hunting together, and investigators believe neither man knew each other. It is not known if the two men had permission to be hunting on private property. Investigators continue to gather information.
