Dad surprised his daughter with shelter dog she fell in love with

An Oklahoma dad surprised his daughter on Tuesday with a shelter dog she had fallen in love with, but thought the dog had been adopted. Hallee Fuqua had been volunteering at the Humane Society of Stillwater caring for a dog named Rambo – visiting with him often.

According to the Dayton Daily News, Hallee’s father, Lance knew his daughter had fallen in love with Rambo, but had always told his daughter she should wait until she graduated from college to adopt a dog.

“She found out this weekend that Rambo had been adopted and she was broken,” Lance Fuqua wrote on his Facebook page.

But a special surprise waited for Hallee.

“My wife and I decided to secretly adopt him (Rambo) 3 weeks ago. With the help from the Humane Society we kept it a secret. She found out this weekend that Rambo had been adopted and she was broken. So Sunday night we surprised her with her early Christmas present. We captured the moment on video. Merry Christmas Hallee!”

Donations to the Humane Society of Stillwater would be perfect to help more pets just like Rambo find their loving families.

They tell you not to give a dog for a Christmas present, but this is one case where I’m sure the present won’t be returned. What wonderful parents this girl has. What a heartwarming story.

What a wonderful father and mother to surprise their daughter with this dog. Hallee is one lucky girl to have such caring parents and her parents are lucky to have a daughter who volunteers to help shelter animals of which Rambo was one of those dogs. He lucked out and not only got his forever owner Hallee but a family that will also care and love him. One great story and lucky daughter and dog.

It reminds me of when I was a teenager, and my first dog, a Staffordshire mix who I grew up with, passed away at the vet’s office unexpectedly, after the vet had told me he would be fine.

My father was a cat person, and considered dogs a relative nuisance, although he did love our Sam. He made a spontaneous and ill-considered statement upon learning of Sam’s death: “No more dogs.”
In my intense grief, I replied, “I never want another dog!”

So, what did he do? He went to the pound the next morning and picked out another dog for me – a Staffie.

I have to admit that it took me awhile to warm up to the new dog, because I was still suffering intense grief and shock from losing Sam, but one afternoon I heard dishes crashing onto the floor. When I went to see what it was, there was the new dog, lying up on the dining room table with his front paws crossed, as if he was declaring that he had found his rightful throne! I had to laugh, and it was the beginning of a new love story.
