In Henderson, North Carolina, Stryker was rescued on Thursday evening. No one knows for sure what happened to this young dog, but his injuries are indeed indicative of having been a bait dog – either training dogs to fight or one used in the fighting ring who simply didn’t want to fight.
Stryker was saved by Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. Not only is he emaciated, but is covered in wounds and punctures.
“He’s covered in wounds, the worst obviously on his head. He’s emaciated and you can see just scratched and cut up all over,” Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of the the rescue posted on the organization’s social media page. ‘Oh, and part of his tail just fell off!”
Wondering what a “bait dog” is? These are the dogs used to train fighting dogs, and how they practice mutilating another dog without harming the dog in training. Bait dogs are commonly muzzled with duct tape so they can’t bite back. Bait dogs are commonly stolen dogs with passive personalities who wind up just like Stryker; once they are used and abused in the fighting ring, they are abandoned and left to die slow, painful deaths.
Stryker is receiving emergency treatment at the rescue’s partner veterinarian hospital. Donations are needed to help with his expensive care. Please donate now. www.paypal.me/rescuedogsrocknyc
