In a cruel act of animal neglect, a stray puppy with a deeply embedded collar, was finally captured on Wednesday and brought to the Calhoun County Animal Shelter in St. Matthews, South Carolina. For weeks the scared pooch had been spotted scavenging the area, but no one was able to approach her – that is until today.

“…I’ve been putting food out and water for this baby for 3 weeks. We even took the game camera out to try and get a picture. Hadn’t seen in 2 weeks but the food had been getting eaten daily! I’m so glad you got him.,” a follower of the shelter organization posted Wednesday afternoon as the heartbreaking photos of the pup were posted.

Found in the area of Polk Swamp, her embedded collar has caused her head and face to swell. She has been rushed to the shelter’s veterinarian with hopes that she can be saved.

“We just got this precious angel in at our shelter. Dumped …. I am sick to my stomach and hurt beyond words for this poor baby. How can people be so cruel? Embedded collar!”

And no matter how much pain this young dog had to have been suffering, when rescued she was so happy, her tail wiggled constantly.

By late Wednesday afternoon, a rescue organization had stepped up to help:

“Calhoun County Animal Shelter, 140 Purple Martin Drive, St. Matthews, SC SHE IS ON HER WAY TO PAWS & CLAWS IN IRMO, SC. SNARR IS RESCUING HER. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! WILL GET UPDATES ON HER & SHARE!”
