Creepy photos and a video of a monkey wearing a blond “little girl’s” mask has gone viral and all for the wrong reasons. Filmed in Bogor, Indonesia, a small monkey can be seen wearing a pink sweatsuit along with a suffocating mask complete donning a blond ponytail. All the while, the monkey holds a bucket, and as drivers past, they throw money into the pail.
According to Ladbible, the act is reportedly known as Topeng Monyet, translated to mean Monkey’s Mask. Macaques are dressed as humans and are forced to perform bizarre tasks such as riding bicycles. The animals are chained and unable to escape. In this video, the monkey clutches a blue bucket while in the background, music is being played. When the monkey spotted a human holding a paper note, the monkey hurries over and accepts the money. He then returns to the spot where he had been to wait for the next customer.
The clip was shared on Facebook this week, demonstrating the cruelty as the chained monkey is tortured for the monetary benefit of his human. Often these monkeys are cruelly yanked by their necks if not performing to the satisfaction of their owners.
Topeng Monyet was banned in Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital city in 2013. Many of the monkeys have not been able to be returned to the forests because of their physical and mental trauma. Sadly the practice continues.
