A Washington state couple was horrified to find a skinned and mutilated dog near a river in Thurston County on Friday night. According to KIRO 7 News, someone left the body of a dog by a trail near the Nisqually River – the dog’s tail and paws had been removed, and the dog was skinned.
The gruesome discovery
Jacinda Gehrig and her boyfriend, Paul Krause were at the Nisqually River Wheelchair Fishing Access on Friday when they found the mutilated dog. Gehrig told the news agency, “I almost fainted and blacked and I had to walk away for a second and then just kind get myself together.”
The couple notified the authorities about the dog’s body and voiced their fear that this could be related to a string of cat killings in the area. Krause explained, “I’m scared they’re going to move on to kids.”
A serial killer in the making?
Over the past several months, multiple cats have been killed in Thurston County. Residents in the area have been warned to keep their pets indoors as cat after cat (13 as of August) fell victim to a twisted killer who left the mutilated bodies in public areas. A massive reward, topping $53,000, has been offered to find the person behind the killings.
Though the dog’s mutilated body was found in Thurston County, investigators do not believe that the case is related to the cat killings based on the manner that the dog was killed.
